There’s no mistaking the newest of the city’s rescues – it’s white, while the others are red. The city moved quickly to purchase the vehicle from Greenwood Emergency Vehicles in Massachusetts when a municipality canceled delivery and it became available. At the time, two of the city’s four rescues were out of commission and its reserves were not operational. Under mutual aid agreements the city has been using rescues from Coventry, Woonsocket, West Warwick and Cranston. That’s worked, but as Mayor Frank Picozzi observed, Warwick is responsible for any mechanical failures while they are in city use. This could be costly if there was a major breakdown. Even with the new rescue, the department remains shy of four rescues. When repairs are completed to one unit, Picozzi expects the department to be up to a full complement. Meanwhile, the city will seek bids for another new rescue that could take up to a year before delivery. (Submitted photo)
