Regular visitors of Conimicut Point Park were dismayed Monday to discover swaths of beach roses and low shrubbery separating the parking lot from the beach had been cleared. Some of the cut vegetation along with partially cut down shrubs were left at the scene. Asked whether the clearing was part of a larger plan for the park, Parks and Recreation Director James Scott said his people were clearing out and cutting back invasive species such as phragmities.
