Lots of snow, but not much slide

Flakes were still flying Friday when the first of dozens of kids and their parents showed up at the former Gorton Junior High School field with sleds, tubes, saucers and all sorts of devices for sliding down hill. The snow turned out to be a disappointment. It just wasn’t slippery enough for many. Adults pushed and kids waited to take off, but instead slowly crept down the embankment. But that didn’t stop them from trying again and again, which meant climbing back up the hill. Brothers Caleb and Derek Leo, students at Lippitt School carry their sled. As the snow compacted, runs became faster and faster to everyone’s satisfaction. (Warwick Beacon photo)
