The pandemic has changed many things, but filing tax returns is not one of them. As they have done for years, AARP TaxAid volunteers are back at the Pilgrim Senior Center to assist people in completing their returns. There are no income or age requirements of the free service. However, unlike prior years, volunteer facilitators are not able to meet in person. Those looking to avail themselves of the service need to drop off their forms at the senior center. Covid has also brought some changes with the first $10,200 in unemployment compensation exempt from taxes. Site coordinator Nancy Henry said appointments are still open and that the crew that meets on Wednesdays processes about 50 returns a week. She expects that will total about 500 returns when the April 15 deadline rolls around. (Warwick Beacon photos)
