Under the guidance of member Tom Sanford, the Rotary Club of Warwick has consistently hosted the Thanksgiving Day 5-K Turkey Trot at Warwick City Park. Nothing has stopped it, not temperatures that dipped into the low twenties one year or the pandemic this year. The difference this year is that the runners and walkers are on their honor to log 5K. This year’s virtual Turkey Trot benefits the Rhode Island Critical Incident Stress Management TEAM that provides stress management training to first responders and doctors and nurses on the frontline of treating COVID-19 patients. Thanks primarily to the generosity of sponsors, Sanford is hopeful of raising more than $4,000. T-shirts for those registering for the virtual run are being distributed this week from the Warwick Beacon office. There to assist on Sunday were past president Mark Arnold, Sanford and Bernie Rinn. The great thing about being virtual, says Sanford, is that you can still sign up on the club website…and he’ll be sure to get you a turkey shirt. (Warwick Beacon photo)
