SALUTE TO VETERANS

SENIOR VET: Richard DaSilva Jr. who served in the Navy during World War II and celebrated his 100th birthday Nov. 3 held the distinction of being the oldest vet at the ceremony. He was recognized along with Vietnam War veteran Calvin Bowden, a former assistant principal when Veterans was a high school; Vietnam War Army veteran Robert Larkin who lost both legs in the war and went on to become a Warwick history teacher; David Mento, also a Vietnam War veteran who tuned down a Purple Heart Medal for an injury he did not feel worthy of the medal and Robert Baggesen who was a Marine radio operator in Vietnam. Students staged a parade with veterans cheering them on at the conclusion of the ceremony presided by Principal Joseph Coffey.
