Samuel W. Ratcliffe

Samuel W. Ratcliffe, 90, passed away Sunday April 18, 2021 at the Providence VA Medical Center. He was the husband of the late Elizabeth M. (Devron) Ratcliffe and Faith E. (Barton) Ratcliffe.

Born in Swansea, MA, he was a son of the late Orrin and Elsie M. (Northup) Ratcliffe. After high school Sam served his country in the Naval Reserves for three years and then the Coast Guard for another three years in the early fifties. Most of his adult life was spent as a mental health professional at Bradley and Fuller Hospitals. He was Fuller Employee of the Year in 1988. Later, he worked as an associate in the Paradis shops at T.F. Green Airport. Sam had a great tenor voice and sang in several glee clubs and other musical groups as well as in the St. Peter’s Choir. He was a life-long blood donor.

Samuel was the beloved father of Elizabeth A. Schultz (Emeric), Brian J. Rendine (Lynn), Beth M. Bernard (Norman), Kathleen A. Rendine and the late David P. Ratcliffe. He was the loving grandfather of Daniel, Zachary, Joseph, TJ, John, Jennifer, Rebecca, Jamieson and Caitlin. He was the brother of Joseph Ratcliffe and the late Mary Pierce. He is also survived by six-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation Thursday April 22, 2021 from 10-10:30 a.m. in the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Avenue, Warwick followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Peter Church, Fair Street, Warwick. Burial with Military Honors will be in the Rhode Island Veteran Cemetery, Exeter.
