Elaine Margaret (Mulvey) Savage, 87, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully in her sleep on June 27, 2025. She is survived by her beloved husband, William R. Savage, Jr., to whom she was married for over 66 years. Elaine was born in Providence to the late Henry and Catherine (Dalton) Mulvey.
She leaves her two loving sons and their spouses: Robert E. Savage and his wife, Neena, Richard J. Savage and his wife, Michelyn, and her loving daughter and her husband, Diane White and Jason, all of Warwick. She found renewed purpose and joy in her retirement when she devoted her energy helping to raise her grandchildren. She leaves four grandchildren, who will miss her loving presence: Nicholas Savage and his wife Erin Delucca Savage, Natasha Savage, Elizabeth White, and Alexander White.
She also leaves her brother, Gerald Mulvey and his wife, Trudy, nephew Brian Mulvey, niece Jill Mulvey Mattison and husband, Jacob, and nephews Tristan and Henry Mattison. She was a devoted daughter, niece, sister, mother, grandmother, and aunt and the loyal and passionate matriarch of the Savage family.
Elaine’s commitment to her family was grounded in the powerful examples set by her parents and one of the ways she exemplified that spirit was through Sunday dinners, held for decades and experienced by 4 generations at the table. The discussions, disagreements, and perspectives shared at that Sunday dinner table are the stories of priceless memories that are repeated over and over. She loved her family fiercely and was proud of all of their accomplishments and would often regale strangers with stories of their success. Elaine would often say that the best part of her life was being a mother and grandmother and while she enjoyed working, her family was her whole life. Elaine entered the workforce when her youngest, daughter Diane was 6 years old and retired from the Warwick Schools, Computer Department.
Elaine loved traveling with her husband and dear friends, the Red Sox (with a big wine glass of white “zin”) and was not shy about expressing her opinions on the Red Sox, politics, or any other topic of the day. Elaine loved music from the 1950s (Elvis, Tony Bennett, Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra) and would argue with her grandchildren that today’s music just did not compare to her favorites. She loved classic Hollywood films and passed on her knowledge of those classic films to her children and grandchildren. Her happiest moments were spent cheering on her children and grandchildren and she would beam at their endeavors. She traveled all over New England going to baseball, softball, and hockey games. She would count down the days until baseball and hockey seasons started.
In her memory, we will continue to live her example of love, loyalty, passion for, and devotion to family.
