Shaun Galligan, chairman of the Warwick School Committee, has rescheduled the regular meeting originally planned for Tuesday, July 8, out of respect for the passing of Nicolle Greene and to allow the Warwick community to honor her life and legacy.

The meeting will now take place on Tuesday, July 15 at Warwick Veterans Memorial Middle School. The executive session will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the open session will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Nicolle ‘Nikki’ M. (Howell) Greene, a longtime teacher in Warwick Public Schools, died the morning of Saturday, June 28, at the age of 52. She was the beloved wife and best friend of Jason W. Greene (Det. Sgt. WWPD), with whom she shared nearly 23 years of marriage. A native of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, she was the first of three children born to Josephine A. (Romano) Howell and the late Jude T. Howell.
“The Warwick School Committee extends [its] deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mrs. Greene. Her impact will be forever remembered, and she will remain in our thoughts and prayers,” Galligan said in a memo to school personnel.

“Throughout her career, Nikki demonstrated an unwavering dedication to education and the well-being of her students. She began her career in a special-education classroom and after several years transitioned into a traditional classroom setting. She ultimately found her niche as the leader of a Math Interventionist group, where she worked tirelessly to help students overcome challenges and find success in mathematics. She was awarded the Presidential Award for Excellence in Math & Science Teaching, which is the highest award a K-12 teacher can receive for excellence in teaching in the United States. She loved all of her students as if they were her own and was known to have snacks and assorted toiletries available to those students who may be in need,” reads her obituary.

Her funeral will be held Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at 8:45 a.m. from the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave., Warwick, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, 854 Providence St., West Warwick. A visitation will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday, July 8, from 4-8 p.m.
