Men in Black 3
***

Netflix has brought back this 2012 sequel starring Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones. (You can also find the original on Netflix.)

The movie is a silly comedy with lots of special effects, including major adventures at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade and a NASA rocket launch.

Our heroes travel back and forth in time chasing Boris the Animal and try changing events and saving the world and each other.

Josh Brolin plays the younger version of Tommy Lee, and boy, does he look like him.

Emma Thompson plays their boss.

It’s dumb, but good fun when you’ve got nothing better to do.

TOWER HEIST
Trainwreck
***

Somehow I missed this one when it first came out.

Tower Heist has a number of stars, including Alan Alda – a shady investment guru who bills a major hotel staff out of their life savings.

Ben Stiller plays the hotel manager who devises a plot to bring down Alda and recover the money.

It’s fun seeing Alda as the bad guy.

WOODSTOCK 99
* * * *

This incredible documentary covers the three-day festival in Rome and New York, and includes the preparation beforehand as well as the repercussions afterward.

Michael Lang was the promoter who set out to recreate Woodstock, selling tickets to over 250,000 young people back in 1999.

The major problem was that he didn’t know his audience.

The original Woodstock was attended by a different audience, looking for peace, love and the mellow music of the era. The turn of the century crowd was into rage, showing their lack of control when pumped up by heavy metal music.

The organizers cut corners at every turn, overcharging for concessions (Water for $4 a bottle), not cleaning portable toilets and providing horrible conditions on a decommissioned Air Force Base where the hot cement caused temperatures to rise.

The young, volatile audience reacted, and by the third day riots occurred, induced by uncontrolled bands (Limp Biskit and Korn were the worst). They literally burned the place down.

UNCHARTED
* * ½

Antonio Banderas, Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg star in this adventure film about searching for the lost gold of Ferdinand Magellan.

The movie played at the multiplexes months ago, but didn’t get good reviews, and I can see why.

“Uncharted” is a copycat of dozens of “lost gold” movies, including “Raiders of the Lost Ark.”

The moral of the movie is “trust no one,” as every character tries to get the gold for him/herself.

The secret is a key that magically opens doors from churches to nightclubs, each leading to more doors and more adventures.

The movie opens with Holland falling from an airplane when he wakes up from his nightmare. The nightmare scene repeats itself late in the movie after everyone finds the treasure, and Magellan’s ships, and the final battle ensues.

“Uncharted” is a bit over the top.
