HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON
* * *
(Live-action Fantasy)
If you have seen the animated version of this fine family fantasy, you will quickly recognize that little has changed in the live-action version.
Hiccup is the meek son of the Vikings chieftain who doesn’t measure up to his father’s hopes for him to become a dragon slayer.
While hiking in the forest, Hiccup comes face to face with a wounded dragon. He slowly gains its trust, building a new tail and helping him to fly again.
Hiccup is part of a group of young dragon slayer trainees, using the techniques he has mastered to tame his dragon and fooling the entire village into thinking he is the best dragon slayer.
If you have seen the animated version, you know what happens.
The special effects are great, the scenery (Faroe Islands in the North Atlantic) is fantastic, and Mason Thames is a believable Hiccup.
Good lessons for the kids about compassion, teamwork and redemption.
PLANE
* * *
(Tense Thriller)
Netflix has dug out this 2023 thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
Gerard Butler stars as the pilot of a plane that crashes on the remote Jolo Island, which just happens to be inhabited by a gang of violent separatists who hold the passengers hostage while Butler and a dangerous prisoner try to rescue them.
Great action. Lots of tension. Violence.
