Delbert McClinton, Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys, The Derailers and Beausoleil headlined the Rhythm and Roots Festival at Ninigret Park in Charlestown.

“Apollo 13” was at IMAX.

Fred Sullivan Jr. directed “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” at Gamm, starring Sam Babbitt, Rae Mancini, Jim O’Brien, Tony Estrella and Jeanine Kane.

Amanda Denhardt directed “The Skin of Our Teeth” at Trinity, starring Stephan Thorne, William Damkoehler and Phyllis Kay.

Cranston’s Kathryne Jennings, artistic director of Opera Providence, presented “Cinderella” for all ages at VMA Auditorium.

John Berberian, owner of the Columbus Theatre, replaced X-rated films with independent films.

“Barbershop” was a quirky film starring Ice Cube.

40 Years Ago

Kathleen Sisk of Madison, Connecticut was the latest Annie in yet another production of the musical at the Ocean State Performing Arts Center.

Brown University opened its 83rd season with Michael Weller’s comedy, “Loose Ends.”

The cult hit, “Pink Floyd, The Wall” opened.

Four Cranston residents starred in CCRI’s “The Miser”: Mark Anthony Carter, Ronnie Anderson, Nickolas Simon, and Tommy Bengaff.

Dave Jepson’s latest location was the Coachman in Tiverton where Carol Schlink starred in “Play It Again, Sam.” Dinner and show was $13.50.

Joie Chitwood’s Daredevils were at the Big E in Springfield, MA.

The R.I. Philharmonic began its season under maestro Alvaro Cassuto.
