Valentine’s Day tends to garner polarizing reactions. Those in a happy relationship are making plans to do something special with their significant other, while those who are single either poke fun at the day’s absurdities, wallow in loneliness or face it with complete indifference.
No matter how you’re going to be feeling about Valentine’s Day, it’s on a Friday this year, which means there is fun happening around town.
From live music to stand-up comedy, and a dance party there’s something for everyone.
Not many bands can say that they’ve been around for 40 years, but one of the few is Big Head Todd & The Monsters from Boulder, Colorado. Folks might know them from their 1998 collaborative hit “Boom Boom” with blues legend John Lee Hooker or other great tunes like “Resignation Superman” or “Broken Hearted Savior”. This show is already sold out, so if you have a ticket, consider yourself lucky.
There are a few rock & roll lifers who are around the Ocean State, and Dave Howard is one of them. The Warwick native is the current vocalist for Neal & The Vipers with Rhode Island Music Hall of Famer Neal Vitullo. He also spent time doing the singing for the legendary band Roomful of Blues. Howard and his band will play a proper blend of blues and country with a rock ‘n roll spin.
Are you interested in a wicked cool show happening at one of the best venues in Providence that’s ideal for any fan of blues and soul-tinged rock ‘n roll. Reckoners are a supergroup led by guitar phenom Johnny Trama that features some of the best musicians from around the Boston area. Right before they head out on tour with blues-rock legend George Thorogood, Canyon Lights are going to be kicking off the evening in electrifying fashion so make sure to show up on time.
If you are looking for something instead of live music, then how about some laughs? Paul Reiser has been doing comedy since the early ‘80s and folks might know him from being part of the ‘90s NBC sitcom “Mad About You”, the “Beverly Hills Cop” film franchise or his role as Dr. Sam Owens in the Netflix series “Stranger Things”. This show covers what he does best as a stand-up comic. There are still tickets available for his second show. Act fast.
If by chance you’re single this Valentine’s Day, then the best way to spend it is by hitting up a dance party at the coolest venue in South County. Couples are welcome as well with a DJ spinning the hottest tunes and the vibe being just right to have a spectacular time. When you’re taking a break from dancing, go hang out on the deck and take in a view of the crashing waves.
