Staying the course with Solomon

To the Editor:

Mayor Joe Solomon has my support for this election. I've lived here for ten years, after only expecting to stay for a couple of years. Warwick's conveniences, strong public services, and coastal location (not to mention a great newspaper) are easy to like, and nothing's really changed that over my time here.

So, after some consideration of the choice between our incumbent mayor and the other profile candidate, Frank Picozzi, I like the idea of staying the course.

Mayor Solomon has 20 years of experience with Warwick government. He also has a law degree, and is a CPA. Those are not easy credentials to earn. It's still nice that this is not a vote against anyone, as I think Frank Picozzi also has Warwick's interest at heart. I would like to see him serve a term or two on the council to establish his priorities before running for Mayor. We also are at crisis with Covid and the financial troubles that come along with it, and the next year will not be an easy one. We've already seen three dozen city workers laid off (hopefully they can come back when things even out).

I think that steady at the helm is called for. Maybe as the election season plays out, there will be more to consider. But as it stands, I think Mayor Joe is the way to go.
