Dorothy May (Walton) Strickland, a lifelong resident of Warwick, passed away in the early morning hours of Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at the age of 89. She was the beloved wife of Lynn J. ‘Jim’ Strickland to whom she shared 55 years of love and companionship. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late George Walton and Mildred M. (Taudvin) Bennett.
Dorothy dedicated her life to raising her sons and supporting her military husband as they moved around the U.S. and the Caribbean. In her work life, she was employed at Amica and Rocky Point Amusement Park and Chowder House where she was loved by her fellow employees and staff. In her later years, she spent a lot of time with friends and travelling all over the U.S., Canada, and England. Dottie’s most reveled activity, no matter her age was the love for shopping, which was a treat for all those who tagged along! She is truly loved and will be sorrowfully missed.
Dorothy was the loving mother of James E. Strickland (wife, Rahat) of Colorado Springs, CO and the late Kirk C. Tilander and the cherished ‘Grandma’ to Isabella and Leonardo. She was a proud sister-in-law to
Charlotte Brown Bosch and aunt to Summer Elizabeth Bosch. In addition, she was a supportive Godmother to Carol and Gail Champagne. She was a loving aunt to Rhoanna, Rachel (Zinzer), and John David Bethel of her late cousin David Bethel (wife, Marilyn).
