TF Green campaigning for votes as country's 'Best Airport'

Posted

Although the COVID-19 pandemic has drastically cut air travel, TF Green Airport is still aiming to provide travelers with top-notch service and be one of the best airports in the country.

Condé Nast Traveler Magazine is currently accepting votes for numerous travel categories, including “Best Airport” for the United States.

“At TF Green we are always striving to be the best, keeping all travelers safe and seeking to provide the best airport service in the world. That was our goal before this health crisis and that will continue to be our goal as the world recovers its health and economic wellbeing,” said Iftikhar Ahmad, President and CEO of the Rhode Island Airport Corporation in a statement. “Rhode Islanders have always shown a tremendous amount of pride in TF Green Airport in past Readers’ Choice competitions, and their support now provides Rhode Islanders with a way to provide a helpful boost when the time is right to being to restore Rhode Island’s tourism economy.”

John Goodman, Director of Media and Public Relations at Rhode Island Airport Corporation, echoed those sentiments.

“Our mission has always been to be the best airport and to keep people safe, provide our passengers with the best airport service in the world. That was our goal in 2019 and it will continue to be our goal as the world recovers from its health and economic health from the COVID-19 crisis,” said Goodman. “We know that once our air travel numbers begin to grow it will increase the demand, it will be a slow process, but it is important to the Rhode Island economy. We don’t exactly know when that will happen, but when it happens our goal as the Rhode Island Airport Corporation is to be ready. We know that we play a vital role in the state’s tourism economy and thousands of jobs, so we will be ready.”

Goodman also feels that winning the competition could have a potential economic impact on Rhode Island and bring notoriety to the Ocean State.

“To have people support TF Green Airport in the Readers’ Choice competition, it would bring significant national recognition to TF Green and our region. It’s one of the longest-running and most prestigious recognitions in travel. We’re working very hard right now and our commitment to excellence is not going to change. It also gives Rhode Islanders a chance to do something to help its economy once things return,” said Goodman.

Considering the airport's size, service and all-around convenience, Goodman believes that TF Green has plenty to offer passengers and should be considered among the nation’s best.

“I think that people find that when they go on vacation, or wherever they are traveling to, TF Green Airport always leaves people with a very positive impression. It gets the vacation off to a great start. In the time it takes me to do an extra loop around Logan Airport to find parking, I have found parking, have made my way into the airport and through TSA, and am waiting and relaxing going on vacation. That’s how I feel and many other people share the sentiment,” said Goodman.

Ahmad thanked employees for their hard work and commitment, especially during this time of crisis.

“Even as the COVID-19 crisis continues, and air travel remains at historic lows, the Rhode Island Airport Corporation is required to keep public airports operational as a critical component of state and national infrastructure, ensuring vital goods and medical supplies,” said Ahmad. “At times like this we are thankful to have so many exemplary essential employees working behind the scenes to keep our airports safe and operational. From all the members of the ground crews, airport managers, cleaning staff, as well as our cargo and operational teams, and Transportation Security Administration personnel, we appreciate all they do in what is so often thankless work on the front lines of our airports.”
