The Joe cams catch the “Joe Jam”

Jockeying to get best shot of Biden in Warwick

Jake Fernandes, 13, of New Bedford, gripped his camera and heavy, long telephoto lens as he jockeyed for position along Airport Road.

“I just love aviation,” he said, pressing the large lens against a rusty chain link fence.

The President was about to land, and Fernandes was one of a large group of aviation enthusiasts trying to catch a glimpse of Air Force One, and maybe even US President Joe Biden.

The youngest photographer sweating outside the airport, Fernandes, stood aside Sterling Beaucage, of Warwick, and Nate Hall, of Providence.

Biden’s Boeing 757 was due at Rhode Island T.F. Green International Airport around 1 p.m. The President was expected to travel to Somerset, Mass. to visit the site of a former coal-fired power plant as the backdrop for an address about clean energy later that afternoon.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Beaucage said.

The self proclaimed Rhode Island Freedom Fighters were Biden’s only vocal and visible detractors on the scene. Members of the group did not want to give their names but asked to be identified only as “Trump supporters.”

They held a Trump banner and hand-drawn “Let’s Go Brandon” signs.

“We’re not the far right,” said one member of the group. “We’re just Trump supporters.”

Levi, 4, Cole, 6, and Rome, 4, stood with their father Trevor Wilson, waving American flags.

The Warwick family wanted to show a bit of patriotism.

“We’re just hoping to see the president land,” Trevor Wilson said.
