Pair of Titans headed to next level

By ALEX SPONSELLER A pair of Toll Gate Titans made their college decisions official this week, as Meaghan McCamish signed to play both field hockey and ice hockey for New England College while Julianna Roa committed to play soccer for Emmanuel.

McCamish has been one of the top athletes in Toll Gate since her freshman year, and was named All-Division in field hockey and All-State on the ice. Roa was a key piece to the Toll Gate girls soccer team this past fall that went on to win the Division III State Championship.

“It was a hard decision to make, but the opportunity to be able to play both sports and get a good education was important to me. It’s a great opportunity, so I was excited to make that decision,” said McCamish. “I was looking (to play both sports), and I felt that New England College fit pretty well. I haven’t been able to meet many people there yet, but I have been talking to the coaches and they have seemed really nice.”

Heading to the college level will force McCamish to up her strength and conditioning in the coming months prior to making the move to New Hampshire.

“I’m just going to be training to play stronger and faster. It’s going to be a much different pace in each sport, so I need to prepare and hopefully I can keep up,” said McCamish.

McCamish, whose family has deep ties to Warwick and the Toll Gate, is proud to add her name to Titans history and to continue to play the sports that she loves.

“It’s awesome, I never really wanted to go to a private school, all my siblings went to Toll Gate. I had to work super hard to make myself known and get myself out there, so it’s big. I’m going to miss the friendships I have made here with my teammates and coaches. I’m excited though, I’m very competitive so I’m excited to compete at that next level,” said McCamish.
