The Toll Gate wrestling team traveled to Smithfield last week and grinded out a 41-31 win to claim its second consecutive Division II B crown.
Kevin Lewis, Yoshi Verma, Dylan Barker and Tyler Hunter all earned wins for the Titans, however Toll Gate trailed 31-29 heading into the 220-pound bout.
Freshman Tyrisse Volmar went on to pin his opponent in 30 seconds for the win, then Mike Ferraria pinned his opponent in the heavyweight bout to claim the match victory.
The Titans improved to 16-1-1 in league competition this year and will now set its sights on the state championship on Feb. 29th.
Titans head coach Jerry Sabatelli also made history, recently earning his 300th career victory when the Titans won their tri-meet against Johnston and East Greenwich the match before.
Toll Gate took on Pilgrim, Lincoln and Mt. Pleasant on Wednesday evening, but the results were not available at press time. The Titans will hit the road and square off against the North Kingstown Skippers this evening.
