Valentine’s Day Craft Fair

Come and check out 25+ crafters and vendors at the Knights of Columbus (475 Sandy Ln) on February 5th from 12pm-4pm! You’ll find gifts for all your loved ones! Stop by the raffle table, it will be filled with items from all our crafters and vendors. All proceeds from the raffle table are being donated to the American Heart Association.


Operation Stand Behind Veterans

Troop 1 Conimicut Boy Scouts will be assisting a potential Eagle Scout with his Eagle Project on Feb 11, 2023 at the Walmart on Post Rd in Warwick. Between 9am and 2pm. We are asking for and collecting donations of clothing (mens/womens), toiletry items, dental items, underwear, socks or other appropriate items for homeless veterans. Thank you!


NAHPL Summit

Join us for The National Academy of Health and Physical Literacy (NAHPL) Inaugural Summit, “Charting the Course ‘’ on March 6-9th, 2023 in Newport, RI at the Newport Marriott. This is a wonderful opportunity for professionals to network and connect with one another in the health and physical literacy fields.  We launched our organization on June 30, 2021.  We are a diverse organization that seeks to advance health and physical literacy in our society, especially in hospitals, clinics, communities, K-12 schools, higher education, health and physical education, adapted physical activity, mental wellness, various therapies, social work, dance and sport venues. NAHPL seeks to grow and advance professional leaders who will interact and network on regional, national and global levels to expand health and physical literacy in the lifespan of all children and adults. This summit is open to students and professionals with an interest in health literacy and physical literacy. Over 75 sessions and programs have been scheduled. There will be program strands specifically geared to dance, future professionals, and retirees. There is something for all age groups and interests. We will be having two amazing keynote speakers, Christine Brennan and Dr. William Potts-Datema. Our General Opening Session is on Tuesday, March 7th starting at 8:30 am and Christine Brennan will be delivering the Keynote address at 9:00am. We are also having a Dance Summit, Waves, on Wednesday at 4:30 pm and there will be many dancers from RI!


Bingo!

Greenwood Fire Company and Museum is holding their next Bingo on Sunday, February 19, 2023 at the Greenwood Fire Hall, 45 Kernick Street in Warwick.  Nothing to do on a Sunday evening.  Come join the fun.  Everyone is invited.  Doors open at 5:30pm sharp and bingo starts at 6:00pm.  Registration is recommended; space is limited to 50 guests.  Reserve your spot by leaving a message at 401-739-7121 or email Donna at drhalsband@gmail.com   You must be 18 to play.  Snacks and drinks are for sale.  Bingo markers are also for sale if you don't have your own.   Cash prizes, door prize and 50/50 special.  Price of admission is $15.00

Gaspee Seniors

The Gaspee Seniors will meet on February 7, 2023 at the Pilgrim Senior Center. We will be doing a Brown Bag swap . An item of $5.00 is suggested to put into the bag . This is a fun game. REMINDER, Please wear Red !! The next meeting is on February 21, 2023 .Theme, Heart and Women’s Health . New members are always welcome . Meetings are on the first and third Tuesday of the month at 1:30 PM. Hope to see some new faces.


Call for Poetry Submissions

Notable Works Publication is working with Crosswinds Poetry on the third edition of Voices of the Earth: The Future of Our Planet. Poets accepted for publication in this book will receive a complimentary copy upon its completion. Three cash prizes will be awarded from entries. Submission Period: January 1, 2023 to February 15, 2023 at midnight. Poets may submit up to three original works not previously published, each one formatted in 12 point Times New Roman font, not exceeding 60 lines (which includes the title and any spaces in-between) and no more than 66 characters on each line (which includes spaces and punctuation). Men’s Wednesday Senior Softball News

We are looking for more players to join our Wednesday morning Senior Softball League. There are six teams who play doubleheaders on Wednesday mornings at 9;00 am. The season starts on April 26th 2023 all games are at City Park in Warwick, RI on Asylum Rd. The registration fee is $25. Checks can be made out to Wed. Sr. Softball League. The season ends on October 18th, yet many of us played till mid November. This is not a beginner’s league, it is competitive but a lot of fun. You must be 57 years of age to participate, shirts are provided & a Pizza Party is also included. Applications can be obtained by emailing wednesdaySSB@gmail.com.


Food For The Soul Grab and Go Meal Site

Asbury United Methodist Church & Lakewood Baptist Church working together to feed your soul! Monthly grab and go meal site located at : Lakewood Baptist Church, 255 Atlantic Ave, Warwick. Scheduled dates to pick up meals are every 3rd Saturday of the month, 10:30am – 12:30pm. January 21, February 18, March 18, April 15.


Over 65 Golf League

CALLING ALL SENIORS, 62 YEARS AND OVER, if you are interested in golfing in our Senior mixed league at Harbor Lights and meeting new friends on Wednesdays and Fridays starting at 8 AM, come to our Annual Open Membership Meeting on Friday, April 21, 2023, at the Warwick Public Library at 600 Sandy Lane, Warwick, RI at 10 am. Refreshments will be served. Our playing season begins on May 10, 2023 and ends on October 11. Outreach Chamber Music SERIES: A Little Live Music at the Warwick Public Library

The WSO brings live musical performances to communities across Rhode Island.  As a regional volunteer touring symphony, the WSO seeks to deliver high-quality live music and affordable performances to diverse communities.  WSO ensures accessibility and appeals to a wide-ranging audience of varied backgrounds through programming that seamlessly between classical and orchestral pops programs.  Our membership of 60+ dedicated members merge their creative energies and insights together in order to energize ourselves through great music and to entertain audiences of all ages and experience. Throughout mid-winter and spring 2023 the diverse membership of the WSO is actively rehearsing as smaller ensembles to present a series of FREE outreach performances for our community.  The Warwick Public Library – 600 Sandy Lane, Warwick will host premiere performances by these ensembles: CONCERT #1 – STRING ORCHESTRA: Sunday – February 12, 2023 @ 2:00pm, 18 of WSO’s most dedicated string players join forces for a program ranging from Classical to Folk selections. CONCERT #2 – SMALL ENSEMBLES: Sunday – April 23, 2023 @ 2:00pm, Featuring a string quartet, trumpet trio, woodwind quintet, and mixed string & woodwind trio.  CONCERT #3 – MORE SMALL ENSEMBLES: Tuesday – June 13, 2023 @ 7:00pm Featuring a horn quartet, mixed string-wind-brass ensemble, double string quartet, and brass quintet with bass. Library looking for podcast geeks

Are you a fan of listening to podcasts? Do you have a lot of technical skills you would like to apply to a great community resource? The library has its own weekly podcast, Warwick Radio Online, and is building a team to help run it.

Warwick Radio Online (https://warwicklibrary.org/warwick-radio-online-4) highlights the wonderful things that make Warwick great from community resources to opportunities for entertainment to the background and history of the city. They are looking for folks who would like to be technicians to operate the recording studio and edit episodes of the show, on-air talent to serve as hosts of episodes, or managers to supervise and schedule podcast episodes. Those interested can serve in one or all of these roles. Tasks could include recording content in the studio, hosting/co-hosting, interviewing, scriptwriting, editing sound, and experience with Apple computers and the GarageBand audio-editing software. Experience would be helpful, but the library can also help you learn the skills you would need to work on the podcast.

Volunteer with Westbay Community Action

Do you have a passion and desire to make a difference in your community? Westbay Community Action’s ‘Marketplace,’ the second largest food pantry in RI, needs volunteers who are interested in a fun and rewarding experience working with like-minded people. Volunteers 17 years or older will be stocking shelves, unpacking trucks and helping individuals with picking up their food. Youth volunteers 16 years or younger may also volunteer when accompanied by an adult over 18. Call Kendra Anderson at 401-921-1249 ext.352 to get started!


Take Off Pounds Sensibly

Take off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) #38 in East Greenwich has returned to having meetings every Thursday morning at St. Luke's Episcopal Church (99 Pierce St., East Greenwich) at the lower level. The meeting will be ongoing. Weigh-in begins at 9:30 a.m. and the meeting begins at 10 a.m.

The meetings will last no more than one hour beginning to end and anyone is welcomed. If you know someone that is interested in weight loss, they are more than welcome to attend. For more information about TOPS, call Joan Tinkham at 401-739-5322.


Old Warwick Grange 41

The Grange is a fraternal community service, nonprofit organization with a special interest in rural life and the traditions of faith, patriotism, leadership and family values. It’s a place where the whole family can go and grow. Help us to help others.

Hearts for Hospice

Visiting Nurse Home and Hospice (VNH&H) is asking for individuals to support their hospice programs by giving $20 or more to their Hearts for Hospice campaign. People can dedicate their gift to a loved one who is always in their heart; all dedications will be listed on the organization’s website. Calling All Cribbage Players

Do you play cribbage? If so, consider joining a small group of cribbage players from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. every Friday who meet and play at the East Greenwich Community Center located on Pierce Street in East Greenwich. This is a social group where all levels of players are invited to play and meet new friends; there is no cost involved. If you are interested in joining, contact Barbara at 737-6477.

The Rhode Island Blood Center is in need of blood. Individuals wishing to donate must book an appointment at the donation center; walk-ins are only accepted if safe distancing allows at the person’s time of arrival. Nearby areas to donate include The Shops at Greenwood, which is located at 615 Greenwich Ave., in Warwick. This center can be reached at 401-453-8383. Be Kind RI

Be Kind RI is a new program that connects volunteers to their neighbors across RI through text alerts to coordinate food deliveries from grocery stores and food pantries. To sign up go to www.BeKindRI.org. Volunteers must be 18 or older and undergo our background check. Be Kind RI is open to those in RI experiencing COVID-19 risk factors including seniors 65+, anyone with underlying health conditions, those in quarantine or isolation, anyone experiencing a lack of childcare, and those who would otherwise experience difficulty in obtaining food. Meals on Wheels in Need of Volunteers

Meals on Wheels of RI is in immediate need of volunteers for its Home-Delivered Meal Program in Warwick. Meals are delivered Monday through Friday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The program helps homebound seniors remain healthy, safe and happy at home. Citizenship Prep Classes at WPL

Prepare for the U.S. Naturalization Interview with Citizen Preparation classes at the Warwick Public Library. Practice citizenship vocabulary, learn the necessary civics content, and work on interview skills using the N-400 application form. Classes meet on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. starting Sept. 25. Sign up at the library. For more information, call (401) 455-8041.
