Three hardy, or foolhardy depending on how you look at it, souls braved the temperature and the wind to watch the sun rise Saturday from the sand bar at Conimicut Point Park. The weather station at TF Green International Airport recorded -9 degrees as the sun peeked over the distant shoreline to rise above the mist coming off warmer waters. Fortunately, the Warwick Water Division had only one line break and that was minor said division director Terry DiPetrillo. But, he reports, “it was crazy” with 75 emergency calls from residents whose pipes had frozen and were without water or had other problems relating to service. (Warwick Beacon photo)
