OneCranston Health Equity Zone has started a walking group! Every Wednesday from Sept. 21 through Oct. 26, at 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., you can join Sal, a Community Health Worker, for four laps on Bain's large track, or as many as you would like. Flu Shot Clinic

Cranston Public Schools’ flu shot clinic will run for October and November. This is a community clinic for ages three and up. The clinic will be held at the following places: Hope Highlands Middle School (300 Hope Road) on Oct. 12 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the gym; Hugh B. Bain Middle School (135 Gansett Ave.) on Oct. 18 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the gym; Woodridge Elementary School (401 Budlong Ave.) on Oct. 26 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the cafeteria; Western Hills Middle School (400 Phenix Ave.) Nov. 1 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the gym; Park View Middle School (256 Park View Blvd.) on Nov. 9 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the cafeteria. Cranston Hall of Fame Induction Dinner

The induction dinner for the Cranston Hall of Fame will be held on Oct. 14 at the Cranston Country Club. Tickets may be purchased by contacting Susan Soscia at sue@alphaphysicaltherapy.com or log on to Eventbrite.com and go to TICKETS for the Cranston Hall of Fame event. Tickets are $55 each, will not be sold at the door and should be purchased in advance.


Maker Stations at Oak Lawn

Join Cranston Public Library at the Oak Lawn Branch (230 Wilbur Ave., Cranston) on Oct. 8 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. for a maker stations program. Kids in grades K-5 and their families can try their hands at making things in different mediums! Each week there will be a new "arts and crafts" maker activity, as well as a legos station, an origami station and a button making station. Participants should wear clothes that they are comfortable getting messy in. Space is limited and registration is required. Learn About Meditation

Cranston Public Library will hold an online program on meditation and how it can be a tool for stress reduction and a healthier lifestyle. Arlene Samsel, a longtime meditator, will lead the session which will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 4. This event is free and open to the public. Registration is required. Trunk or Treat

Cranston’s Parks and Recreation Department will host a Trunk or Treat event at the Pastore parking lot (155 Gansett Ave., Cranston) on Oct. 30 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. For questions or if you’re interested in participating by bringing your own ‘trunk,’ please contact Regina Lynch at 780-6169 and leave a message, or email her at rlynch@cranstonri.org.


Veterans Day Parade

The City of Cranston will once again hold its Veterans Day Parade at 11:30 a.m. on Nov. 11. The parade will kick off in front of Legion Bowl on Park Avenue, continue past City Hall up to Heyward Street and past Rolfe Street. A ceremony at the cannon memorial will immediately flood the parade. Any group/organization that wants to march can contact Paul McAuley at pmcauley@cranstonri.org.


Roadhouse Yard Sale benefits Johnston Historical Society

Anthony Ursillo and Timothy Kee, both members of the Johnston Historical Society (JHS ), are hosting a “HUGE ANTIQUE YARD SALE at Shang Bailey’s Roadhouse,” 2737 Hartford Ave. (Route 6), Johnston, on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 8 and 9 ( rain date: Monday, Oct. 10), starting at 8 a.m. each morning.

Interested vendors must contact Ursillo prior to Oct. 8 for details, through Facebook or by e-mail (aursillo401@gmail.com). Each spot will cost $25 for two days, and proceeds will go directly to the Johnston Historical Society, a 301(c) non -profit organization. 


Open Juried Exhibit

The Warwick Center for the Arts is holding its 36th annual RI Open Juried Exhibit from Oct. 1 to Nov. 12 at 3259 Post Road, Warwick. The show consists of a variety of media and subject matter and is juried by Paula Martiesian. Martiesian has exhibited extensively around RI and is an award-winning advocate for the arts and artists. Animal Blessing

In honor of St. Francis, St. Mark’s Episcopal Church will have its Annual Blessing of the Animals on Oct. 1 from 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the front lawn of 111 West Shore Road, Warwick. Holiday Bazaar

On Nov. 5 and Nov. 6, St. Francis Xavier Church will hold a holiday bazaar. There will be a Christmas booth, attic treasures, silent auction, hand knit items, baked goods, kids corner, raffle baskets and more. The event will take place at 81 No. Carpenter St., East Providence. The bazaar runs from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Nov. 5 and from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 6.


Go Birding this Fall

Join the Audubon this fall for morning bird walks. There will be a bird walk at Hunt’s Mills in East Providence on Oct. 9 from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. The cost is $5 for members and $7 for non-members and is for those ages 12 and older – advance registration is required. There will also be an annual Hawk Watching trip on Oct. 22 at Napatree Point. The cost is $15 for members and $20 for non-members and is for teens and adults – advance registration is required. Beer Garden at Garden City Center

Join Garden City Center at the gazebo for a rotating lineup of local breweries on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Proclamation Ale Company will be there Sept. 30 to Oct. 2. On Fridays, the beer garden will be open from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. On Saturdays, it will be open from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. and on Sundays it will be open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The beer garden is open to the public – no cover charge. Customers must show a valid ID in order to purchase an alcoholic beverage.


Governor Sprague Mansion Arts & Crafts Faire

There will be an arts and craft faire from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 23 at the Governor Sprague Mansion (1351 Cranston St., Cranston). Stop by for unique art and fine crafts by area artisans and learn about the artists and how they became interested in the style they represent. Parking is available in the back of the mansion and the faire’s rain date is Oct. 29. The mansion has a call for artists and fine artists (pre-registration fee is $40 per space). 2022 Celebrate the Movement 5K

Special Olympics, Garden City Center and the Cranston police Department’s Office of Community Outreach will host a 5K run and walk-a-thon on Oct. 23. Register by Oct. 10 for $30 per person and you will receive a T-shirt. Sign up on or after Oct. 10 and the cost is $40 but you will not get a T-shirt. Ghost Party

Join Jared the magician and mentalist at 7 p.m. on Oct. 28 at Governor Sprague Mansion for the Cranston Historical Society’s annual Charlie the Butler Ghost Party fundraising event. Costumes are optional – no Halloween masks. Tickets are $20 for non-members and $17 for Cranston Historical Society members. Individuals can have their tarot or psychic future read by fortune tellers for a separate fee. There will be light refreshments. Poet Presentation

Nonfiction@Brown lecture series presents "Diana Khoi Nguyen, Lyrical Prose, and the Intimacy of a Sentence." Poet and multimedia artist Diana Khoi Nguyen presents her work on Oct. 5 at 6 p.m. at Brown University, PVD (location TBA go.brown.edu/nonfiction_now). Craft and Vendor Show

St. Mary’s Feast Society Ladies’ Auxiliary will host its annual Holiday Craft and Vendor Show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 12. There will be vendors, crafters, handmade items, baked goods, raffles, food and more.


Humans of Cranston Nominations

OneCranston Health Equity Zone is starting a new initiative with the Cranston Herald and local photographer Timothy McFate called Humans of Cranston; they will be interviewing Cranston residents to gain a deeper understanding of and celebrate those who live here. Those interviewed will be featured in a new column and on OCHEZ social media. EG Art Club Exhibit

The East Greenwich Art Club will have its annual exhibit of members’ artwork at the Cranston Public Library (140 Sockanosset Cross Road) from Oct. 1 to Oct. 28. The exhibit is free and open to the public. Please check the library’s website for their current hours. There will be a reception on Oct. 8, from 1:30 to 3 p.m., where you can meet the artists. Painting With Gouache

East Greenwich Art Club will hold a “Painting with Gouache” workshop at the East Greenwich Recreation Center, 1127, Frenchtown Road, East Greenwich. This two-day workshop will take place Sept. 30 from 9 a.m. to noon and on Oct. 1 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Contemporary realist, Lorena Pugh, will spend the first day instructing how to use gouache. Participants will do practice experiments to get a feel for and create a small painting. The second day will be working in the plein air park area behind the East Greenwich Recreation Center. In case of inclement weather, the organization will work from a still life inside the building, using black boxes. Participants may bring whatever still life items they want to paint.


October Paint-Out

Warwick’s Clouds Hill Museum in conjunction with the Warwick Center for the Arts will host a  paint-out this fall on Oct. 8 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. All artists working in any medium will fall in love with the setting. Pre-registration is required and can be completed at warwickcfa.org.


Free Teacher Assistant Training Program

The Comprehensive Community Action Plan is holding a free, virtual teacher assistant training program from Oct. 17 to Oct. 27. Individuals must be 18 to 24 years old, have a high school diploma or GED and a clean BCI. The classes run from noon to 3 p.m. Individuals, if eligible, can get paid to attend class. Walk and Talk at Rocky Point

Come join the “Rocky Point Pacers” for a walk around Rocky Point every Tuesday and Thursday morning at 9 a.m., weather permitting. They meet at the gate on Rocky Point Avenue.
