DUI

At approximately 2 a.m. on June 12, Officer Cody Wild responded to New London Avenue for a report of a motor vehicle accident.

At the scene, Wild made contact with one of the operators, who was bleeding from the head. While the operator was checked by rescue personnel, Wild reports detecting the odor of alcohol emanating from the man’s breath.

The operator is said to have acknowledged consuming alcohol earlier that night and agreed to undergo field sobriety testing, which he reportedly failed.

Shawn Quintin, 45, Fairhaven, Massachusetts, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. While at headquarters, he is said to have refused a chemical breath test.

Quintin was later released into the custody of a sober adult with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court on a charge of driving under the influence. He was additionally cited for refusal to submit to a chemical test and failure to maintain proper control of a motor vehicle.

SHOPLIFTING

Just after 7 p.m. on June 4, Officer Anthony D’Abrosca responded to the Macy’s store at the Warwick Mall for a report of shoplifting. Dispatch advised that asset protection personnel from the store had an adult female suspect in custody.

At the scene, an asset protection associate at Macy’s told D’Abrosca that at approximately 6 p.m., he was watching the store’s security cameras when he observed a woman select three boys T-shirts before proceeding to the checkout line. The woman is said to have paid for one of the shirts but concealed the other two. She is also said to have opened and eaten a candy bat while in line without paying for the item.

The woman was then observed proceeding to the women’s department, where she selected three tops and again got in line at the register. She again concealed two of the items and paid for the third. At that point, she exited the store without making any to pay for the concealed items. She was then met by store personnel, who escorted her to the asset protection office.

The asset protection associate reports in addition to the four items the suspect had been observed concealing, another 16 items were recovered. The combined value of the stolen items was placed at more than $773.

Ann L. Pilderian, 55, 455 Meshanticut Valley Parkway, Apt. 205, Cranston, was arrested on a charge of shoplifting and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. She was later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court.

LARCENY

Shortly after 4:30 a.m. on June 5, Officer Paris Norwood responded to the Something Fishy aquarium store at 1185 Jefferson Boulevard for a report of a larceny.

At the scene, the reporting party told Norwood that the catalytic converter had been stolen from his 2007 GMC box truck sometime overnight. The truck had been parked alongside other commercial vehicles in the store’s lot the previous night but would not start the next morning. At that point, the damage was discovered.

As Norwood prepared to leave the scene, another man attempted to start another vehicle in the store’s parking lot – described as a 2006 GMC box truck – and was unable to do so. It was then determined that vehicle’s catalytic converter had also been stolen. That vehicle had been parked in the lot at 2 p.m. the previous day and left overnight.

No other vehicles appeared to be damaged. The matter was documented and forwarded to detectives.

At approximately 3 p.m. on June 7, Officer Bruce Law responded to the Greenwich Bay Marina at 252 Second Point Road for a report of a stolen dingy.

At the scene, the reporting party told Law that his dingy and outboard motor had been stolen from one of the slips at the marina sometime between 2 a.m. and 8 a.m. that day. The dingy was described as a 10-foot Mercury, while the outboard motor was a nine-horsepower Tohatsu. Their combined value was estimated at roughly $3,000.

Security camera footage was not immediately available. The matter was forwarded to detectives.

Just after 11:30 a.m., Officer Brian Holleran met with a reporting party at Warwick Police headquarters regarding a past larceny incident.

The reporting party, a Tilden Avenue resident, said his 2017 Ram 1500 was broken into sometime between 11 p.m. on June 4 and 6 a.m. on June 5. Several items were taken from the vehicle, including a backpack, a MacBook Pro, an iPad Mini, a GoPro Hero, an external hard drive, power cords, books, notebooks and a binder. The reporting party said he had mistakenly left his vehicle unlocked when he returned home on the night of June 4. He also learned that a neighbor had his wallet stolen from his own vehicle during the same timeframe.

The matter was documented, and Holleran checked with neighbors in the area in an attempt to locate and security camera footage from the night in question.

NO LICENSE

Just after 7:30 p.m. on June 10, Officer Tyler Mobrice was conducting a fixed patrol at Elmwood and Fifth avenues when he observed a red Nissan Altima operating at a high rate of speed.

Mobrice pursued the vehicle south on Elmwood Avenue and clocked it at 50 mph in a 35 mph zone. He followed the vehicle onto Post Road north, where he initiated a motor vehicle stop.

A records check revealed the vehicle’s operator did not have an active driver’s license and had at least two previous convictions for driving without a license. Additionally, the operator was wanted on a pair of bench warrants issued from Sixth Division District Court.

Edison Taveras Garcia, 31, 573 Public St., third floor, Providence, was taken into custody on the warrants and additionally charged with driving without/expired license, third or subsequent offense. He was transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing and later transported to the Adult Correctional Institutions. He was additionally cited for visibility of registration plates and speeding.
