STOLEN VEHICLE

Just before 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 16, Officer Maxwell Neiley responded to a 200 Centerville Road for a report of a possible stolen motor vehicle.

At the scene, the reporting party told Neiley his 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee had been stolen from the parking lot at the address. The reporting party is said to have told Neiley the vehicle went missing the previous day, Feb. 15, but that he “did not report it until today due to his schedule.”

The reporting party told Neiley he arrived for work at the Centerville Road address at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Feb. 15. He said the vehicle was parked in the southwest portion of the parking lot, next to Diamond Hill Road and the dumpster at the property. He discovered the vehicle was missing when he left work at approximately 7 p.m., and he told Neiley there was “no broken glass, or any evidence indicating that the vehicle was entered forcibly.”

The reporting party told Neiley the vehicle was fully paid off, he was in possession of both of its keys, and no one else, including family members, had access to the vehicle.

No security camera footage was immediately available. The vehicle was entered into records as stolen, and the matter was documented and forwarded to detectives.

LARCENY

At approximately 5:45 p.m. on Feb. 10, Officer Ryan Shibley responded to Warwick Police headquarters to meet with a reporting party regarding a larceny complaint.

The reporting party told Shibley she had parked her 2014 Volvo XC7 at Warwick City Park while she took a walk between 3:15 and 4:45 that afternoon. When she returned to the vehicle, she found its rear passenger-side window had been smashed out and her purse, which she left on the vehicle’s rear seat floor, had been taken. No other items were missing.

The reporting party said the purse contained a debit card, driver’s license, checkbook, medical card and other personal items.

No witnesses or security camera footage were immediately available. The matter was documented.

Just before 5 p.m. on Feb. 13, Officer Kevin Warren responded to the lobby of Warwick Police headquarters to meet with a reporting party regarding a larceny complaint.

The reporting party told Warren he and his wife had dined at Red Robin at the Warwick Mall at around 3 o’clock on Feb. 12. When they returned home, the man’s wife realized she had left her iPhone 12 at the restaurant.

The man called the restaurant and spoke with a server, who said a phone had been found and would be placed in the establishment’s safe. When he returned to the restaurant at around 4 p.m. on Feb. 13, however, a manger told him no iPhone 12 had been turned in. The manager said an Android phone had been found the previous day and the server may have mistakenly been referring to that phone.

Warren responded to Red Robin and spoke with the manager, who confirmed only the Android phone had been turned in. No security camera footage was available.

The matter was documented and forwarded to detectives.

Shortly after 10:39 p.m., Officer Derek Hagopian responded to the Happy Garden restaurant at 959 Warwick Ave. for a report of larceny from a motor vehicle.

At the scene, the reporting party – an employee of the restaurant – told Hagopian he had gone out to start and warm up his vehicle at the end of his shift. He went back inside the restaurant for roughly 15 minutes, and when he returned to the vehicle, he discovered a Garmin GPS device had been removed from its front windshield mount.

Hagopian reports he searched the vehicle in case the device, valued at roughly $200, had fallen from its mount, but he did not find it. The vehicle, a 2007 Chevy Equinox, had been left unlocked while warming up and showed no signs of forced entry.

Another officer’s search of the area for any suspicious individuals was unsuccessful. The matter was documented and forwarded to detectives.

At approximately 5:15 p.m. on Feb. 18, Officer Maxwell Neiley responded to the Lowe’s store at 510 Quaker Lane for a report of a catalytic converter stolen from a vehicle.

At the scene, the reporting party told Neiley he had parked his 2012 Jeep Liberty roughly 100 yards from Lowe’s, where he works, at approximately 7:50 that morning. When he left work just before 5 p.m. and started the vehicle, it was “extremely loud.” He then noticed footprints in the snow around the vehicle and checked its undercarriage, at which point he discovered the catalytic converter had been cut off.

No security camera footage was immediately available. The matter was documented and forwarded to detectives.

SHOPLIFTING

Shortly after 5 p.m. on Feb. 9, Officer Aaron Steere responded to the JCPenney store at the Warwick Mall for a report of a female shoplifting suspect in the custody of loss prevention personnel.

At the scene, a loss prevention associate told Steere that the woman had been observed acting suspiciously in the men’s department shortly before 5 p.m. The associate said the woman was observed selecting removing a pair of shorts from a hanger, rolling them up and placing them under her arm. She was then observed selecting a high-end pocketbook in the women’s handbag department.

The woman is said to have concealed the shorts and pocketbook within her own pocketbook and another shopping bag she was carrying. She then exited the store without making any attempt to pay for the concealed items, at which point she was met by employees and escorted back inside.

The merchandise, with a combined value of $288, was recovered.

Steere reports that due to an equipment issue at Warwick Police headquarters, and based on consultation with a lieutenant, the decision was made to issue a court summons to the suspect. She would be required to report to headquarters for processing – which includes fingerprinting and being photographed – at a later date.

Stephanie M. Simas, 37, 23 Church St., West Warwick, was released from the scene with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court on a charge of shoplifting.

SUSPENDED LICENSE

Shortly before 9:30 p.m. on Feb. 17, Sgt. Gregory Johnson observed a 1988 Ford F450 flatbed tow truck traveling “well above the normal flow of traffic” and the posted 45 mph speed limit on Quaker Lane. He then clocked the vehicle at 75 mph.

Johnson initiated a motor vehicle stop and made contact with the operator, who was found through a records check to have a suspended license, two previous convictions for driving with a suspended license, and two other pending cases on the same charge.

Evan D. Tourangeau, 26, 91 Hathaway Drive, West Warwick, was arrested on a charge of driving with a suspended license, third or subsequent offense, and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. He was later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court. He was additionally cited for speeding.

WARRANTS

At approximately 5 p.m. on Feb. 17, Officer Keara Enos was traveling east on West Shore Road when she observed a silver BMW with Tennessee registration. A records check found the vehicle’s registration was associated with a black Honda.

Enos initiated a motor vehicle stop and made contact with the operator, who was found through a records check to be wanted on three active Superior Court bench warrants.

Edmond N. Oakes Jr., 670 Charles St., Apt. 6, Providence, was taken into custody on the warrants and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing.
