The Winman baseball team rolled past Vets 13-2 last week in the teams’ latest installment of their historic city rivalry.
The Warriors jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning and built a 10-0 advantage in the fourth. The Hurricanes scored a pair of runs in the bottom half of the fourth, but the Warriors would close the door in a shortened game when they put up another three runs in the fifth.
Colby Fales, Adrian Gonzaga and Jacob Forte led the Winman offense by all driving in multiple runs. Cole Auclair knocked in another as well.
Gonzaga picked up the win on the mound, pitching three scoreless, hitless innings while striking out seven batters. Fales tossed two innings of relief and surrendered just one earned run and striking out one batter.
Vets’ Bryce Merrill drove in a run for the Hurricanes while Lucas Rutkiewicz crossed home as well. Albert Valdez-Perez, Matthew Hervieux, Jack Daigneault and Rutkiewicz combined forces on the mound for Vets and finished with seven strikeouts overall.
