The Rhode Island Interscholastic League boys tennis playoffs got underway on Tuesday afternoon and the Warwick co-op continued to be one of the top teams in Division III as it swept Coventry to advance to the semifinals.
Cornelius Zmed won at top singles, 6-3, 6-4 and Parker Weldy won 6-2, 6-3 in the second spot. Josh Maynard won at third singles 7-6, 6-3 and John Maynard completed the singles sweep by winning 6-0, 6-3 in the fourth spot.
Warwick’s top doubles pairing of Jacob Scott and Etienne Degos closed the show with a 6-0, 6-1 win. Will King and Alex Marsis won the first set of their doubles match 6-0.
Warwick will take on the winner of Cranston East and Burrillville next Tuesday, with the winner heading to the DIII championship.
Also in action was No. 4 Bishop Hendricken in the Division I bracket, and No. 5 Moses Brown would eliminate the Hawks, 4-2.
Hendricken’s top doubles pair of Patrick Cavanagh and Shane Ciunci won their match while teammate Luca Testa got a singles win. The Quakers rolled otherwise to earn the trip to the semifinals.
Hendricken finished the regular season with a 9-5 record.
