Alex Clemmey enjoyed a breakout campaign for the Hawks and was one of the state’s elite pitchers last spring. Clemmey was Hendricken’s ace and finished with a perfect 8-0 record and averaged more than two strikeouts per inning on the mound.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Alyssa Twomey, Pilgrim
Alyssa Twomey is once again the Beacon’s Softball Player of the Year as she was an even bigger force last spring. Twomey, who was also named the Gatorade Player of the Year, finished with an impressive 0.56 ERA and averaged nearly two strikeouts per inning. She finished the year with a .389 batting average and knocked in 23 runs and seven homers.

The Pilgrim boys lacrosse team was on a revenge tour in 2022 and would go on to finish undefeated and win the state title. Braxton Bragg was the team’s most dominant player throughout the historic run, finishing with a whopping 73 goals and 31 assists, which led the team in each.

Adeline Areson is the Beacon’s Girls Lacrosse Player of the Year for the second time in a row, as she was even better her sophomore year for the Titans. Areson was the team’s top scorer and guided it to the semifinals after being moved up a division. Areson finished 56 goals and 11 assists, leading the team in each category.

Ryan Dacey emerged as one of the state’s best players and arguably the best public school golfer this past spring. Dacey finished fifth overall in the individual state championship and would go on to reach the round of 32 in the Rhode Island Amateur tournament, which was the furthest a Toll Gate golfer ever advanced.

Expectations were high when Eze Wali transferred to Hendricken this winter and he delivered, averaging 18 points per game with five assists. He also saved some of his best basketball for the playoffs, hitting the game-winning 3-pointer against La Salle that sent the Hawks to the state championship where they eventually won over Classical.

Colton Whitfield was the state’s top defensive player this past season and was key in the Hawks pulling off the upset to win the state championship. Not only was Whitfield a leader and elite defender, but he was also a big-time offensive option at the blue line for the Hawks, finishing with 10 goals and 14 assists.

Brady Burke was one of the state’s most productive players in the 2021 season and helped guide the Pats back to the playoffs. Burke led the team in receiving yards on offense with over 500 while finishing with nine touchdowns. He also led the defense in tackles and hauled in three interceptions to help impact both sides of the ball.

Throughout last fall season, the Hawks struggled to find their top runner. As the season wore on and the lights got brighter, no Hawk stepped up and shined more than Troy Silvestri, who took seventh at states and fifth at the class championships. After guiding the Hawks to the state title, he turned around and had another tremendous outing at the Nike Northeast Regionals, where he took seventh.

Elizabeth Cavanagh enjoyed a breakout campaign for Pilgrim last fall and was the team’s top forward all season long. Her performance helped her secure a spot on the coaches’ All-Division team. Cavanagh looks to improve this season as a senior and looks to be one of the division’s top players.
