Hawks run to division title

By ALEX SPONSELLER The Rhode Island Boys Indoor Track & Field Division Championships were held last week at the Providence Career and Technical Academy and plenty of locals made some noise as they get set for this weekend’s class meet.

Here is a look at some of the results:

Bishop Hendricken would take first place as a unit.

Hendricken’s team of Jake Kopech, Brandyn Durand, Nathan Rivas and Joel Felix won the 800 relay, while Troy Silvestri won the 3,000 run for the Hawks.

Kamalie Pemberton took first in the 55 dash, while teammate Evan McGregor took first in the 1,500 meter run as well as the 1,000 meter run.

Toll Gate’s Domenic Calise won the 300 dash, while Hendricken’s Josiah Nhar won the high jump and Durand the shot put. Keith Daigneau won the weight throw for Hendricken

Hendricken’s team of Bowen Healey, Aidan Moreira, Elliot Gauvin and Brayton Gazerro took second in the 3,200 relay. Toll Gate’s team of Jamie Luna, Calise, Patrick Wilson and Trevor DiPanni placed second in the 800.

Hendricken’s Keegan Tierney finished second in the 3,000 run, while Durand placed second in the 55 dash and Wilson Jablonski second in the 1,500 run. Jablonski also finished second in the 1,000 run.

Hendricken’s team of Jacob Naiefeh, Xavier Wilkins, Anthony Manna and Nick Narcessian went on to take second in the 1,600 relay. Hendricken’s Blessjoey Nyannah finished second in the shot put.

Josh Breard took third for Hendricken in the 3,000 run, while Kopech took third in the 55 dash and Akhere Edoro third in the 600 run. Hendricken’s Hayden Clare placed third in the 300 dash, while teammate Patrick Torres took third in the high jump.

Nyannah finished third in the weight throw for the Hawks while teammate Evan Dion finished third in the long jump.

Cranston West took third place as a team.

West’s relay team of Nathan Quero, Alex Phok, William San Antonio and Peter Morales won the 3,200 relay.

West’s team of Nick DiFazio, Drew Evans, Manny Soler and Morales went on to win the 1,600 relay as well for the Falcons.

Cranston East’s Jethro Vargas won the long jump for the Bolts while Morales would go on to take second in the 600 meter run.

Soler took third in the 55 hurdles, while Steve Faccenda took third in the shot put for the Falcons.
