SUSPECTED SHOPLIFTING

On April 2, Officer Cabrejos, along with Officer Reddy and Detective Aarico (in patrol capacity), responded to Market Basket (25 Pace Blvd.) for a shoplifting in progress.

Upon arrival, Cabrejos made contact with the offender, a woman who approached Cabrejos yelling “It’s me you’re looking for.” As Cabrejos began approaching the offender, she continued to yell while pushing a shopping cart.

The offender stated that she used to work at Market Basket and came to get groceries. She stated multiple times that was not shoplifting and showed Officer Cabrejos a digital receipt on her phone.

A Market Basket employee stated that the offender was a past employee who used to work in the Bakery Department. The employee stated that the offender had entered the back room of the bakery and began moving shelving racks around.

The employee stated he had asked the offender to leave, as she did not work at the store anymore. The offender began yelling loudly at the employee and other workers. She caused a disturbance in front of multiple customers.

As the offender began to leave with her shopping cart of items, the employee said he needed to see a receipt, which the offender did not provide. The employee stated that he could search for a record of her transaction if she told him what cashier she went to.

The offender refused and proceeded to exit the store with the cart. The employee called the police believing she had shoplifted.

The employee stated he confirmed via the store’s internal system that she paid for all merchandise.

The offender was given a no-trespass order.

STOLEN VEHICLE

At this time, Officer Bailey ran the plate and the vehicle came back stolen out of Providence. The vehicle was entered stolen on April 1.

Officer Bailey activated the overhead lights and emergency siren, made a traffic stop and arrested the driver.

The Providence Police Department provided a copy of the police report, which showed the vehicle had been rented by the driver at a U-Haul location in Providence.

The driver was charged with obtaining a vehicle with intent to defraud and released with a court summons.
