DUI

Just before 12:30 a.m. on April 26, Officer Keara Enos was conducting a routine patrol, heading east on Airport Road toward Warwick Avenue, when she observed a vehicle – described as a 2009 Mercury Milan – stopped in the middle of the intersection.

According to Enos, the Milan was facing north on Warwick Avenue and had its left turn signal activated. The officer reports that the traffic light for left turns onto Airport Road from Warwick Avenue was initially red, but the vehicle remained stopped after the light turned green.

Enos then positioned her cruiser behind the Milan and approached the vehicle, which was playing loud music. As she called out to the operator, the vehicle began to drive away, heading west on Airport Road. She called for the vehicle to stop, but it continued. She then returned to her cruiser and pursued the vehicle, which came to a stop at Airport Road and Loveday Street. The officer reports that during the pursuit, the vehicle’s “passenger side tires touched the white fog line numerous times.”

Enos then made contact with the operator, who is said to have acknowledged consuming alcohol that night. The officer reports detecting the odor of alcohol on the man’s breath and observing that he had “mildly bloodshot” eyes.

The man is said to have agreed to undergo field sobriety testing. The testing was discontinued, however, after Enos determined it could not be safely administered due to the man’s apparent intoxication.

Robert J. Daniels, 59, 935 Pontiac Ave., Apt. 34, Cranston, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. While at headquarters, he is said to have agreed to chemical breath tests, which reportedly found his blood alcohol content to be significantly above the legal limit.

Daniels was later transported to Kent Hospital for detox. He was issued a summons to appear in Third Division District Court on a charge of driving under the influence and cited for obedience to traffic control devices.

SHOPLIFTING

Shortly before 8:22 p.m. on March 16, Officer Oliver Pinheiro responded to Haxton’s Toll Gate Liquors on Bald Hill Road for a report of shoplifting.

At the scene, the store’s manager told Pinheiro that approximately 25 minutes early, two women had entered the store, concealed four bottles of cognac in their purses and exited the store without making any attempt to pay. The stolen bottles had a combined value of roughly $204.

Security camera footage was not immediately available, but was later provided to police. Through a review of the video, Pinheiro identified a 2011 Honda in which the women involved in the theft may have left the scene. A warrant was later issued for the arrest of one of the suspects on charges of shoplifting and conspiracy.

Shortly before 2 a.m. on May 2, Officer Michael Maccarone responded to Warwick Police headquarters to take custody of Cheyenne Christian-Shnider, 20, Boston, Massachusetts, on the warrant. Christian-Shnider had been transported to Warwick headquarters by Cranston Police. She was later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court. ***

Shortly after 7:30 p.m. on April 23, Officer Michael Rocchio responded to the JCPenney at the Warwick Mall for a report of shoplifting. Dispatch advised the female suspect was in the custody of asset protection personnel.

At the scene, an asset protection manager at the store told Rocchio that shortly before 7 p.m., a woman had been observed entering the store with a reusable bag and behaving suspiciously. The woman is said to have selected a pair of jeans and concealed them in her bag before moving on to the children’s department, where she selected several clothing items and concealed them in the bag as well.

According to the asset protection manager, the woman then paid for a single children’s shirt before exiting the store without making any attempt to pay for the concealed items. At that point, she was met by store employees and escorted back inside. Several clothing items with a combined value of $191 were recovered, according to JCPenney.

Kristina St. Onge, 35, Fall River, Massachusetts, was arrested on a charge of shoplifting and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. She was later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court. ***

Shortly after 5 p.m. on April 25, Officer Brian Fontaine responded to the Macy’s at the Warwick Mall for a report of shoplifting. Dispatch advised that a male suspect was in the custody of asset protection personnel.

At the scene, an asset protection officer told Fontaine the suspect that a few minutes earlier, the man in custody had been observed on security camera footage “selecting multiple Polo items with no regard for the price.” He “then selected a Macy’s bag and placed all the items inside of the bag.”

Shortly thereafter, the man was observed exiting the store without making any attempt to pay for the concealed items. At that point, he was met by the asset protection officer and escorted back inside.

Luke R. Lozzi, 27, Franklin, Massachusetts, was arrested on a charge of shoplifting and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. He was later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court.

LARCENY

At approximately 4:42 p.m. on April 26, Officer Johnathan Dipietro responded to Warwick Police headquarters to speak with a man regarding a larceny complaint.

The reporting party told Dipietro that he had gone to Angels Marina on Bay Avenue at approximately 11 a.m. on April 24 to work on a boat he docks there. He remained until approximately 8 p.m. that night.

The next day, the man discovered a duffel bag was missing from the rear passenger seat of his vehicle, a 2013 Mercedes C300. He believed the bag was taken while he was at the marina, since the vehicle had been left unlocked that day as he went back and forth between the vehicle and his boat.

According to the reporting party, the bag contained a marine radio valued at $150, a watch valued at $2,000, an iPad valued at $900, and iPad keyboard valued at $80, a portable speaker valued at $300, earbuds valued at $200, sunglasses valued at $180, a vest valued at $50 and assorted toiletry items valued at roughly $30.

No security camera footage was available. The matter was documented.

RECOVERED VEHICLE

Shortly after 7:30 a.m. on April 29, Officer Gregory Accinno responded to the intersection of Hardwick Street and Cove Avenue for a report of an abandoned motor vehicle.

Dispatch advised a gray Ford station wagon with Rhode Island registration had been sitting at the location since the previous day. The vehicle’s windows were said to be open, and pill bottles were sitting on the front seat. The vehicle had also been reported stolen out of Providence.

At the scene, Accinno observed a 2005 Ford Freestyle with “what appeared to be fresh damage on the front passenger side fender of the vehicle.” He also observed the pill bottles on the front seat.

Accinno then spoke with the reporting party, who said neighbors in the area had observed four people – three male and one female – appear to exit the vehicle the previous day before entering a Chevy Impala. It was also believed the four people had taken the contents out of the Ford Freestyle before leaving in the Impala.

The matter was documented and the vehicle was towed from the scene.
