DUI

Shortly before 11 p.m. on May 4, Officer Brian Fontaine responded to the area of Strawberry Field and West Shore roads for a report of an impaired operator. Dispatch advised that rescue personnel had observed a silver vehicle strike a telephone pole before leaving the scene.

Fontaine was traveling east on Main Avenue in a marked cruiser when he observed the suspect vehicle on Modena Avenue. The vehicle had heavy front-end damage.

Fontaine made contact with the vehicle’s male operator, who was also its sole occupant. The officer reports detecting a “moderator odor” of alcohol on the man’s breath. The man is also said to have been “unsteady on his feet.”

The operator is said to have agreed to undergo field sobriety testing, which he reportedly failed.

Robert L. Clark II, 34, 15 Chapin Ave., Apt. 2, Providence, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. While at headquarters, he is said to have agreed to undergo chemical breath testing, which reportedly found his blood alcohol level to be above the legal limit.

Clark was later released into the custody of a sober adult with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court on a charge of driving under the influence. ***

Just after 11:30 p.m. on May 10, officers Nicholas DeMarco and Andrew Distelhurst responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Warwick Avenue and Lake Shore Drive.

At the scene, a witness told DeMarco he had observed a Chrysler Sebring mount the curb at the intersection. The witness then checked on the vehicle’s operator, who was unresponsive, and called 911.

DeMarco checked on the vehicle’s male operator, who was also its sole occupant, who was “in the driver’s seat unconscious, and unresponsive.” The man did not respond to the officer’s attempts to wake him by banging his hand on the vehicle’s window.

The operator was finally roused after the arrival of rescue personnel, and DeMarco reports the man “appeared to be confused and unaware of his surroundings.” He is also said to have refused medical treatment.

“I observed a 375ML bottle of Don Julio Tequila in the passenger seat,” DeMarco reports. The officer adds that the operator’s “eyes were severely bloodshot, he spoke with a slurred speech, and I could smell an odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath as he spoke.”

The operator is said to have acknowledged consuming alcohol that night and agreed to undergo field sobriety testing, which he reportedly failed.

Adam N. Colbert, 31, 173 Bellevue Ave., Providence, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. While at headquarters, he is said to have consented to chemical breath testing, which reportedly found his blood alcohol content to be significantly above the legal limit.

According to DeMarco, a records check during processing revealed Colbert was wanted on an active, unspecified warrant. He was held on that warrant and issued a summons to appear in Third Division District Court on a charge of driving under the influence. He was additionally cited for leaving the lane of travel and improper use of registration or title certificate.

 LARCENY

Shortly after 5 p.m. on May 4, Officer Thomas Paine responded to PB & J’s restaurant on West Shore Road for a report of larceny.

At the scene, the reporting party told Paine the catalytic converter had been stolen from his Ford F250 pickup truck, which had been parked at the location between approximately 8 p.m. on May 3 and 8 a.m. on May 4.

Security camera footage from a nearby business was reviewed, although it provided no leads due to the darkness and rain the previous night. No other footage was immediately available.

The matter was documented and forwarded to detectives.

SHOPLIFTING

At approximately 1:45 p.m. on May 6, Officer David Boardman responded to the Macy’s at the Warwick Mall for a report of shoplifting. A male suspect was in the custody of loss prevention personnel.

At the scene, a loss prevention officer told Boardman that the suspect had been observed selecting multiple Adidas clothing items “with no regard for price.” The suspect then “rolled up all items under his arms” before exiting the store without making any attempt to pay. At that point, he was met by Macy’s employees and escorted back inside. Four clothing items with a combined value of $232.50 were recovered.

Ronald A. Meadows, 55, 400 Knight St., Apt. 428, Warwick, was arrested on a charge of shoplifting and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. He was later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court. ***

Just after 4:30 p.m. on May 9, Officer Justin Martin responded to the Macy’s at the Warwick Mall for a report of shoplifting. A female suspect was in the custody of loss prevention personnel.

At the scene, two loss prevention officers told Martin the suspect had been observed “selecting multiple items with no regard for prices” before rolling the items up and heading into a fitting room. When the suspect left the fitting room, a black bag in her possession that previously appeared empty “was now much bigger.”

The suspect then exited the store without making any attempt to pay for the concealed items, at which point she was met by store employees and escorted back inside. Four women’s clothing items with a combined value of $325.32 were recovered.

Laura K. Ellard, 36, 760 Reservoir Ave., Cranston, was arrested on a charge of felony shoplifting and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. She was held pending an appearance before a bail commissioner.
