DUI

Shortly before 11 p.m. on June 18, Officer David Boardman responded to Officer Joseph DiIorio’s request for assistance with a motor vehicle stop on Post Road.

At the scene, DiIorio told Boardman the vehicle in question – described as a 2010 Ford F150 – had been clocked at 60 mph in a 35 mph zone and observed “swerving heavily, crossing the double yellow line while traveling [in the] southbound lane.”

DiIorio said he then initiated a stop, during which the truck “hit the curb and bounced off the curb three separate times.” He also informed Boardman of his observations upon making contact with the vehicle’s male operator, who was said to have “bloodshot, watery eyes,” “slurred speech” and an odor of alcohol on his breath.

Boardman then made contact with the operator of the Ford, who is said to have acknowledged consuming alcohol that night. The officer reports making the same observations as DiIorio regarding the operator’s speech, eyes and odor.

The operator is said to have agreed to undergo field sobriety testing, which he reportedly failed.

James W. Fyffe, 23, 226 Woodbury St., Pawtucket, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. While at headquarters, he is said to have agreed to submit to chemical breath testing, which reportedly found his blood alcohol content to be above the legal limit.

Fyffe was later transported to Kent Hospital for detox. He was issued a summons to appear in Third Division District Court on a charge of driving under the influence. He was also cited for speeding and laned roadway violations.

Just before 1:30 a.m. on June 20, Officer Tyler Luiz observed a motor vehicle operating erratically as it traveled north on Bald Hill Road through the Toll Gate Road intersection.

“The motor vehicle was swerving back and forth, from left to right, over the white dotted marked lane,” Luiz reports. “The vehicle then made a drastic corrective movement to the left, positioning the vehicle over the left yellow line, almost colliding with a natural grass filled traffic island that separates the northbound and southbound lanes on Bald Hill Road.”

At that point, Luiz initiated a stop of the vehicle, described as a 2021 Kia Forte. He made contact with the male operator, who was the vehicle’s sole occupant, and reports “immediately” detecting a “strong odor of alcoholic beverage.” The officer additional reports the operator’s eyes were “glassy, red and bloodshot.”

The operator is said to have agreed to undergo field sobriety testing, which he reportedly failed.

Leokiah Tate, 43, Downers Grove, Illinois, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. While at headquarters, he is said to have refused a chemical breath test.

Tate was later released into the custody of a sober adult with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court on a charge of driving under the influence. He was also cited for refusal to submit to a chemical test, laned roadway violations and leaving the lane of travel.

Just after 2 a.m. on June 11, officers Brian Fontaine and Jessica Masso were conducting an impaired driving patrol on Bald Hill Road when they observed a southbound vehicle as it “began to drift to the right over the white fog line, and continued to travel back into the lane of travel.”

The officers initiated a stop and Fontaine made contact with the vehicle’s male operator and sole occupant. Fontaine reports the man had “blood shot and watery eyes” and a “moderate odor” of alcohol on his breath, and that he “moderately slurred” his speech.

Fontaine reports the operator refused to undergo either field sobriety testing or a preliminary breath test. He reports that Masso then confirmed his observations regarding the man’s eyes, speech and odor.

Sean M. Overton, 28, 32 Ponderosa Drive, West Warwick, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. While at headquarters, he is said to have refused chemical breath testing.

Overton was later released into the custody of a sober adult with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court on a charge of driving under the influence. He was also cited for refusal to submit to a chemical test.

SHOPLIFTING

Shortly before 4:30 p.m. on June 16, Officer Kevin Warren responded to the Macy’s at the Warwick Mall for a report of shoplifting.

At the scene, an asset protection officer told Warren a woman had been observed carrying large, apparently empty bags through the store at approximately 2:30 that afternoon. The woman is said to have selected a pair of glasses and placed it in one of the bags.

She then “made purchases on the first floor and proceeded to the second floor where he observed her take eight items, and of those eight items, she concealed four of them” into one of the bags she was carrying.

The woman is said to have then exited the store without making any attempt for the concealed items, at which point she was met by asset protection personnel and escorted back inside. Three T-shirts valued at $29.50 each, a hooded sweatshirt valued at $44.25, and a pair of earrings valued at $50 were recovered.

Jennifer L. Cantone, 43, 3 Longmeadow Road, Lincoln, was arrested on a charge of shoplifting and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. She was later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court.

SUSPENDED LICENSE

Just after 3 p.m. on June 2, Officer Nicholas DiNardo responded to the intersection of Lambert Lind Highway and Knight Street for a report of a motor vehicle accident with injuries.

At the scene, DiNardo found all of the people involved in the crash being treated for “minor complaints of pain.” None were transported to the hospital.

DiNardo made contact with the male operator of one of the vehicle’s involved, described as a 2007 Linvoln SUV. A records check found the man had a suspended license and at least two prior convictions for driving with a suspended license.

Gregory M. Andersen, 36, 1652 Main St., first floor, West Warwick, was arrested on a charge of driving with a suspended license, third or subsequent offense, and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. He was later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court. He was also cited for failure to yield to vehicles turning left or right.

Shortly after 2 a.m. on June 14, Officer Nathaniel Gray was traveling north on Jefferson Boulevard in the area of Motel 6 when he observed a 2003 Honda Accord with no front registration plate.

Gray initiated a motor vehicle stop and ran a check of the vehicle’s rear plate, which came back as canceled and associated with a 2009 Kia. He then made contact with the vehicle’s male operator, who is said to have acknowledged not having an active driver’s license. A records check confirmed the operator’s license was suspended and that he had at least two prior convictions for driving with a suspended license.

Elliot T. Marzette, 30, 47 Coach Murgo Lane, Barrington, was arrested on a charge of driving with a suspended license, third or subsequent offense, and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. He was later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court. He was also cited for display of registration plates and operating a vehicle with canceled registration.

LARCENY

Just after 6:30 a.m. on June 14, Officer Nathaniel Gray responded to Trugreen Lawn Care at 30 Access Road for a report of catalytic converters stolen from multiple trucks at the property.

At the scene, a manager told Gray that 11 trucks had their catalytic converters taken sometime between approximately 6:30 p.m. on June 11 and 6:15 a.m. on June 14. He told the officer the gate to the property’s back lot was open that morning and its lock had been cut.

Each of the vehicles had two catalytic converters, and both were stolen from each of the 11 trucks. The company estimated the combined value of the stolen converters to be between $45,000 and $50,000.

Security camera footage from the area was not immediately available. The matter was documented and forwarded to detectives.

Shortly before 1:30 a.m. on June 15, Officer Nathaniel Gray responded to a Greenwood Avenue home for a report of larceny from a vehicle.

At the scene, the reporting party told Gray that when she looked outside while going downstairs at approximately 1:10 a.m., she had seen a man next to her car.

“She stated that she saw a tall thin white male fully masked walk out of her driveway to his parked gold Toyota Camry which had damage around the driver side headlight and the driver side headlight was out,” Gray reports. The Camry then drove away.

The reporting party then found that a wallet containing multiple credit cards and a driver’s license had been taken from her 2019 Honda CRV. Another vehicle at the property, a 2020 Toyota Tacoma, had also been broken into, but no items were missing. Both vehicles had been left unlocked.

No security camera footage from the area was immediately available. The matter was documented.

At approximately 6 a.m. on June 15, Officer Nathaniel Gray responded to a Hillard Avenue home for a report of who cars being broken into. A wallet had reportedly been stolen from one of the vehicles.

At the scene, the reporting party told Gray that when he went out to his 2013 Hyundai Tucson at approximately 5:35 that morning, he “noticed that some stuff had been rummaged through.” A wallet containing a driver’s license, bank card and other cards was missing. Another vehicle at the property, described as a 2006 Ford, had also been entered, but no items were stolen. Both vehicles had been left unlocked, and neither was damaged.

During the course of the investigation, Gray learned of another possible larceny from a vehicle on Hillard Avenue. At that property, the owner of a 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan told the officer she had left her vehicle unlocked overnight. Nothing had been stolen from the vehicle, but “various items from her center console were scattered over the driver seat.”

Both incidents were documented.

VANDALISM

At approximately 7:30 p.m. on June 20, Officer Tyler Luiz responded to the Hardig Brook Village apartments on Centerville Road for a report of property damage.

At the scene, the reporting party told Luiz that sometime between 8:30 p.m. on June 19 and 3 p.m. on June 20, the passenger-side rearview mirror of her 1998 Toyota Camry had been damaged. The vehicle had been parked when the reporting party arrived home on the evening of June 19.

Luiz observed that the mirror was “hanging on by an internal wire to the vehicle.” There was no other damage.

No security camera footage was immediately available. The matter was documented.

Just after 6 p.m. on June 7, Officer Ryan Shibley responded to a West Shore Road home for a report of malicious damage.

At the scene, the reporting party told Shibley that the side panel of her vehicle, between the front and rear driver’s side windows, was missing. She noticed the damage that morning, and said it appeared whoever was responsible had attempted to remove the same panel on the passenger side as well. The vehicle was described as a 2017 Jeep Cherokee.

The matter was documented and forwarded to detectives.
