DUI

At approximately 9:18 a.m. on Nov. 27, officers Walter Larson and Michael Isherwood were directed to the area of Cumberland Farms at 3335 Post Road for a report of a possibly impaired driver. Dispatch advised that a blue pickup truck was “all over the roadway” and had just pulled into the store’s parking lot.

The officers positioned their cruiser on Centerville Road across from the Cumberland Farms and observed the operator in question enter his vehicle. The vehicle is said to have pulled on Post Road north, ignoring a no left turn sign. The officers followed the vehicle onto Greenwich Avenue and observed it straddle lane lines and narrowly miss striking the curb.

The officers initiated a motor vehicle stop and Larson made contact with the operator, who is said to have had a “flushed red face,” “bloodshot eyes” and “severely slurred speech.”

“I could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage known to me through my training and experience to come from his breath,” Larson reports.

The operator is said to have agreed to undergo field sobriety testing, which he reportedly failed.

Patrick T. Provost, 29, 125 Paula Drive, North Kingstown, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. While at headquarters, he is said to have refused a chemical breath test.

Provost was later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court on a charge of driving under the influence. He was additionally cited for refusal to submit to a chemical test, obedience to traffic control device and a laned roadway violation.

At the scene, the reporting party told Moretti that she had parked her 1998 Honda CRV in front of Golf Galaxy at approximately 11 a.m. and gone inside the mall. When she returned to the vehicle sometime between 12:30 and 12:45 p.m., she discovered the passenger-side window had been smashed.

“It looked as though there was a small punch in the upper right hand corner,” Moretti reports. “The rest of the window was shattered but in tact.”

Mall security checked surveillance video but found nothing related to the incident or a potential suspect. The matter was documented.

The reporting party and her daughter then went outdoors and called out to the delivery woman, who is said to have initially refused to respond before saying the package was not for the home. The reporting party’s daughter is said to have taken the package out of the delivery woman’s hands. The label of the package listed the name and address of the reporting party.

The reporting party said she had contacted Amazon about the incident and wanted to alert police in the event of similar incidents elsewhere in the community.
