Warwick Showcase reopens

The good news is that the Warwick Showcase has reopened.

The bad news is that we have seen all the movies.

You will have to wait until July 31 for a new release, and well into August for more.

Russel Crowe’s “Unhinged” opens on July 31, followed by “The Broken Hearts Gallery” on Aug. 7, “Tenet” on Aug. 12 and the long-awaited live-action remake of Disney’s “Mulan” on Aug. 21.

“Unhinged” is a psychological thriller starring Russell Crowe. “The Broken Hearts Gallery” is a romance starring Steve Carrell. “Tenet” is a spy story.

Meanwhile, Warwick has filled its screens with oldies but goodies and is charging $5, with two to three showings a day in their 14 houses.

Masks must be worn until you have settled in your assigned (and socially distant) seat. The original plan called for masks being worn while watching the movie, but that was changed. I’m sure it didn’t have anything to do with the sale of popcorn and soda, which will come with covers.

Old classics being shown include “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” “Ghostbusters,” “Back to the Future,” “The Jungle Book,” “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” ”Jurassic Park,” “Mama Mia” and “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.”

More recent films are “The Conjuring,” “The Way Back,” “The Invisible Man,” “Jumanji: The Next Level” and “Wonder Woman.”

The last movie we reviewed before pandemic was the awful “The Hunt” about 12 strangers who are released in the woods to be savagely murdered. Avoid this one.

Showcase management advises us that hand sanitizer is available throughout the theater and theaters will be cleaned after every showing.

No word yet as to when Warwick Mall Showcase or Avon will open.

Netflix

Meanwhile, I continue to watch old Netflix series. “Outlander” is the latest, and I am hooked on the romantic, historic adventure that was popular for three seasons.

Rotten Tomatoes has listed the top 100 offerings and given them ratings.

Most popular, and on my list, are “Money Heist,” “Grace and Frankie,” “Dead to Me” and “The Crown.”
