WCA battling in District 3 brackets

The Warwick Continental American Little League All-Star teams are in the thick of their District 3 brackets and will be fighting for a chance to win the title and advance to the upcoming state tournament.

Here are some of the results from the past week of action:

The WCA 11’s punched their ticket to Thursday night’s D3 championship game by winning their first three games of the tournament.

Their most recent win came in a 3-2 decision over East Greenwich when they walked off in the seventh inning on an error. Max Garcia led the way at the plate by driving in two runs. Joey Rotz scored twice and Lou Johnston added another run.

Cody Banach was sharp on the mound, pitching five innings and striking out 10 batters while allowing no earned runs. Dexter Fernandes struck out two batters and allowed no runs in two innings of work while picking up the win.

The 11-U team returns much of the same lineup that won last year’s 10-U District 3 title. The team has outscored its opponents 20-4 and has thrown a no-hitter in the process as well.

“Our coaches, parents and our league are incredibly proud of the commitment of this group of players, to show up and do their best every time they are on the field,” said 11-U manager Seth Holbrook. “They practice incredibly hard and have bought into the team concept. And to top it off, they are a fun group of kids to be around, they make coaching easy.”

The WCA 12’s have also been impressive and most recent picked up a 10-2 win over South Kingstown on Monday.

Tyler Dale drove in a pair of runs while Alex Doucette, Miller McGuinness and Lennox O’Connell also recorded RBI. McGuinness picked up the win on the mound by pitching five innings and allowing no earned runs while striking out five batters. Landon Engstrom tossed an inning of relief and recorded a strikeout.

The 12’s were back at it on Wednesday against Coventry, but the results were not available at press time.
