There is a haven from the cares of the world, and it is located right here in the heart of our city. Tucked in a quiet plaza off Sandy Lane is the peaceful oasis of West Shore Wellness, owned by longtime massage therapist Jane McGinn.
West Shore Wellness, named after its original home on West Shore Road, is a restful retreat where clients can go to shed their worries and emerge feeling restored and rejuvenated ~ ready to take on the challenges of a new day with a bit more resolve, a bit more mental and physical energy.
Owner Jane McGinn is a licensed massage therapist who founded West Shore Wellness in 2008. Her years of experience and professional training, complimented by her calm demeanor, make her the perfect person to help release you from the stresses of daily life. Jane, along with the center’s fellow massage therapist, Lara, will give you a customized, personal experience every time you come to West Shore Wellness.
Jane explains the mission of West Shore Wellness: “West Shore Wellness provides therapeutic massage and bodywork, nurturing spa treatments, yoga classes, meditation and breathwork to help you maintain personal wellness and inner peace.” Personal wellness and inner peace are things we could all use a little more of these days. Jane and Lara, who also offer couple’s massages, provide the following therapies: Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue, Reflexology and Hot Stones, among others.
Added to this list are four original “signature” spa treatments that Jane has developed over the course of her many years as a massage therapist. These include exfoliating sugar scrubs, mud wraps, moisturizing paraffin applications, hot towels, and aromatherapy.
Some might wonder what sets West Shore Wellness apart from its many larger commercial competitors. One need only ask two of Jane’s most loyal fans, Kelly Doyle and her mother, Nancy Bowron. Kelly has been a client of Jane’s since she first opened in 2008, and she treats her mother to a monthly massage ~ it is a “mother-daughter” standing date! They travel from North Kingstown and Narragansett respectively, just to be treated to the healing hands of Jane McGinn. They love her holistic approach, her kindness and thoughtfulness, the consistency with which she works AND her heated therapy beds. To Kelly and Nancy, there is no better person or place to get the self-care we all so desperately need at this time.
Yoga classes with instructor Maureen Mitchell, offered at convenient times, also provide that much-needed escape from the world. Her classes are designed to increase flexibility, calm the mind, raise energy levels and realize inner peace. Beginners are always welcome.
