William D. Maroney

William D. “Billy” Maroney, 36, died Sunday, July 11, 2021 at home. He was the beloved son of the late Daniel J. and Carolyn M. (Donnelly) Maroney Jr.

Billy was a graduate of Pilgrim High School and attended the day program at the J. Arthur Trudeau Center for many years. He participated in the Special Olympics from the age of 8 and was a proud member of the Warwick Superstars. He loved Nascar, Big Bird and Elmo, Super Mario, and Disney. He also loved to travel as part of the Fab 5 which included his nieces: Amanda Maroney, Jen Carmody and Jens’s children Isabella and Robert Richardson.  He was the loving brother of Lloyd “Skip” Maroney, Pam Amaral, Susan Alpaio (John), Laurie Maroney with whom he lived, Loretta Leeman (James), Sabrina Cherry (Jason), and Anthony Carello. He also leaves many nieces and nephews, including Michelle Finlay, Amanda Maroney, and Jenn Carmody who were very dear to him.

His funeral will be held Thursday at 9 a.m. from the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home 2435 Warwick Ave, Warwick, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Kevin Church Sandy Lane, Warwick.  He will be buried with his brother Stephen and parents at the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery in Exeter.

Visiting hours Wednesday, 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution to Special Olympics RI, Warwick Super Stars 370 George Washington Hwy, Smithfield, RI 02917, would be appreciated.
