Hawks take 3rd at states

The Bishop Hendricken wrestling team made some noise over the weekend at the state championships at the Providence Career and Technical Academy, with four Hawks taking home titles and claiming third place overall as a team.

Pilgrim went on to take 14th place overall, while Toll Gate finished 25th as a unit.

Cumberland won the event, rolling to 213.5 points while second-place Coventry earned 183 points. Hendricken was close by with 176.5 points in third.

Here is a look at some of the results from the event:

Adolfo Betancur won in the heavyweight division, while Cam Bailey won at 220 pounds, Nick Fine at 160, and Andrew Fallon at 126. Fallon was also last year’s New England champion.

Pilgrim was led by senior Dikran Kirkorian with a third-place finish at 205 pounds.

Noah Sclama placed fifth for the Hawks at 120 pounds while Pilgrim’s Brady Burke took fifth at 145.

Tyler Keaney took home sixth place at 132 pounds for Hendricken, while Luke Mead finished sixth at 195 pounds for the Hawks.

Alden Zabbo finished seventh at 106 for Hendricken, while teammate D’ante Silva finished seventh at 152 pounds.

Toll Gate’s Tyler Hunter finished eighth at 138 pounds, while teammate Mike Ferraria took eighth at heavyweight. Here are some other local results from the state championships: Cranston West finished the day in 11th place while rival East placed 21st. Johnston would finish at 26th overall as a unit.

Cranston West finished with four grapplers placing in the event.

Chris Gomez finished in fourth place at 132 pounds, while Matt DeFusco took fourth at 145. Tyler Stephenson finished fifth at 138 and Noah Robert took sixth at 160. West’s Dylan Walters placed eighth at 170 pounds.

Cranston East’s Nick Rutherford finished fourth at 152 pounds for the Thunderbolts

Johnston’s Antonio Bracey placed seventh at 145 pounds.
