Leo E. Mathurin, a retired Senior Chief/Officer in Charge with the United States Coast Guard, passed away Monday, April 22, 2024. He was 80 years of age. He was the beloved husband of Kathryn M. (Dennis) Mathurin with whom he shared 24 years of marriage. Born in Central Falls, he was the fourth of six children born to the late Ernest and Alice (Charpentier) Mathurin.
In his retirement, Leo loved spending his time outdoors, whether it be gardening in his yard or on his Harley-Davidson. Most recently, he enjoyed taking rides in his little red sports car. He loved the ocean, a good cup of coffee and spending time with his grandchildren. One of his favorite things to do was to take his rescue dogs, Lulu and Rusty, out for a long walk.
Leo was the devoted father of Rebecca Vicente and Matthew Mathurin (wife, Melissa); ‘Pa’ to Jared and Joshua Vicente and Brinley Moran. He was the step-father of Lisa Moran and Monica Andreozzi. Leo was the brother of Edna Grzyb and Roger Mathurin. He was predeceased by his siblings, Robert Mathurin, Raymond Mathurin and Gerard Mathurin.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, April 30, 2024, from 9-10am in the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave., Warwick with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am in St. Peter Church, 350 Fair St., Warwick. Interment will immediately follow in the RI Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery.
