The leaders of Iran want an apocolypse. They have repeatedly stated they want to destroy Israel and the US. What is it you don't understand? If my neighbor kept telling me he wanted to kill me, I would be justified in protecting myself. A nuclear armed Iran will be a nightmare. They are not likely to be persuaded by a mutually assured destruction pact that kept the cold war between the US and USSR 'cold'.
