Our country was settled by people from Western Europe who were seeking religious freedom. They came from nations where the government determined what religion a person should practice. These early settlers believed in the Laws of Nature and Nature’s God and that all Men are created equal and that these Men are endowed by their Creator with the rights of Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. The First Amendment of the Constitution developed by our Founding Fathers guarantees the Free Exercise of Religion. Amendments to the Constitution have to receive a two-thirds vote by the members of the House of Representatives and the Senate followed by a three-fourths vote of the 50 states. The Founding Fathers never envisioned that the Supreme Court of the United States could make changes in the United States Constitution. If changes were warranted, these changes would have to be voted on by the people of the United States.
