Contracts are more than just about money. They outline protocols for student and teacher protection. If you ok up any city's teacher contract, you will see criteria for class sizes, modifications for students, ELL language, maternity leave, military leave, bereavement leave, etc..... A contract is also needed due to incidents that do happen in the classroom with students harming themselves, other students, and teachers. It outlines class sizes at each level and seniority criteria. It will guarantee fair and equitable classes for both teachers and students. Provide safe working conditions and explain the roles for all. The contract is not just for teachers but also for students.
