Report Inappropriate Comments

In the School Committee rules and regulations under the title "SCHOOL COMMITTEE POWERS AND DUTIES" (file BBA) it states:

"The School Committee shall determine and control all policies affecting the administration, construction, maintenance and operation of the public schools".

That means the School Committee (SC) is fully responsible for the lack of fire alarms and especially for keeping that information away from the parents.

For the record, the fire department responded immediately upon being notified. I can't see how they could have done a better job.

For the record, Superintendent Thornton apologized, stating "the buck stopped with him" but what I don't know is, was he the decision maker or the spokesperson/scapegoat? I honestly don't know but I am going to find out.

For the record, Vice Chair Gene Nadeau and Chair Bethany Furtado can't say they didn't know. They knowingly covered up this life threatening problem for 30 days. They are as guilty now as they were when they tried a similar cover-up with the Ragosta Report causing the taxpayers to go to court to make it public. Their guidelines (file ACC) define Types of Abuse: Neglect: as "a failure to provide the basic necessities (such as food, clothing, hygiene, and shelter) and/or a lack of appropriate care for a child". and according to R.I. General Laws 40-11-3, it should be reported to The department of Children, Youth, and Families. Was it? Nadeau and Furtado are guilty of violating their own requirements of parents.

They had to know. They have to go.

That's the way I see it.

Happy Easter everyone
