I would point out the Corrente/Avedisian debate in 2016 was hosted by a high school class. Even though the questions were all pretty much softballs Corrente struggled his way through the entire debate. The "cut taxes, cut spending" candidate couldn't even name 1 line item in the budget he would cut. I guess however, at the end of the debate I did learn something: I learned that Rick Corrente has no idea what he's talking about and he's nowhere near qualified to run the city of Warwick. Avedisian wasn't great in that debate either.

Those kinds of forums underserve voters (in my opinion) because I feel the questions are overly generic, even more so than in a normal debate setting. Of course I don't blame the students for that, they are just learning the ins and outs of taxes, budgets, schools and in many cases at that age opinions can be formed by parents, teachers and friends more so than reading and learning on their own. I think it would be even more effective to have the Beacon run the forum and give the kids a front row seat to the process. Just my 2 cents as I read about these civics class forums. I love the idea, I think the execution could be much better.
