Regarding the recent School Committee executive session (secret meeting) decision to move ahead with a lawsuit against the city without a formal vote, this is the kind of open meetings violation that we are seeing more and more of. If the School Committee wants to sue the city then do it in an open session so that everybody can see who is voting for what. This is going to end up being a total waste of time and taxpayer money when the Attorney General rules that an open meeting violation occurred. Not one penny of legal fees should be authorized for either side until the School Committee meets in open session and authorizes the suit through a roll call vote.

I am especially concerned about Teri Medeiros comment that "a decision was made." We voted for her to straighten out things at the School Committee not hide behind some secret shield of "a decision was made."

Consider the following from this article (above):

“It came as a surprise to me,” said committee member Eugene Nadeau, “I didn’t know that it was going through.”

Nadeau doesn’t favor the action. He said yesterday, “We have to address the problem now with these contracts [with the teachers and WISE].”

Asked whether the committee voted, committee member Teri Medeiros said, “The school committee discussed it and that decision was made.” She did not recall a vote.
