Fans of Harper Lee’s celebrated 1960 novel To Kill a Mockingbird will be able to revisit the story through a 12-hour read-a-thon organized by Barnes & Noble. The event is scheduled for Monday, July 13, in anticipation for Lee’s forthcoming novel, Go Set a Watchman, set to be released the following day.

The read-a-thon will start at 9 a.m. and run to 9 p.m. The novel will be read from start to finish. Some of the featured readers confirmed for the event include Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian, Cranston Mayor Allan Fung, children’s author Padma Venkatraman, author Taylor Polites, NAACP vice president Paul Malaba and others.

Barnes & Noble invites members of the Rhode Island community to attend the event and even volunteer as a guest reader to help keep the read-a-thon going strong.

The event is part of the bookstore’s “Get Pop-Cultured,” “a month-long celebration of pop-culture in July. With the month just underway, their calendar is already booked. On throwback Thursdays, customers will journey down nostalgia lane and experience and learn about the influence that pop-culture had on society through the years. Each Thursday will cover the span of an entire decade, starting with the ’50s and ending in the ’90s.

This past weekend was “Time Travel Weekend.”

The “Harper Lee Celebration,” in which the store will host the read-a-thon on Monday and Tuesday, Barnes & Noble locations nationwide are scheduled to open at 7 a.m. so customers can grab their copy of Go Set a Watchman early. The first 20 customers will receive a free To Kill a Mockingbird tote bag, and those who purchase the book between 7 and 10 can grab a complimentary tall coffee at the in-store café.

The following days are aimed at a younger crowd, with “Minions Fun” on the 17th at 7 p.m., “Star Wars Saturday” on the 18th, “Manga Mania” on the 19th and “Fangirl Friday” at 7 p.m. on the 24th. “Fangirl Friday” invites fangirls to celebrate and unite in their fandom, dress in cosplay and be introduced to the women of Marvel.

July 25 is Vinyl Day. With the sales of vinyl being a recent addition to Barnes & Noble’s inventory, Vinyl Day will serve as an opportunity for fans of the listening format to browse the stores’ growing assortment of music. There will be special offers and giveaways and a special appearance by author Jan Gaye, wife of Marvin Gaye, who will be conducting a book signing from 1-3.p.m. for her book, After the Dance: My Life with Marvin Gaye.

July 26 is James Patterson Day, where fans of the author are invited to come to the store to take advantage of special one-day offers on the books by author James Patterson.

“Get Pop-Cultured” will come to an end in a timeless way on July 28 and 31 at 7 p.m. with “Dr. Seuss Spectacular.” On the 28th, children are invited to a story time event in celebration of the newly discovered Dr. Seuss book, What Pet Should I Get?. On the 31st, “Get Pop-Cultured” closes out with a bang in celebration and appreciation of the beloved Dr. Theodor Seuss Geisel.
