The Rhode Island 50/70 state champion all-star team, comprised of a number of players from Warwick Continental, is on the verge of finishing up its run at the Intermediate 50/70 East Regional Tournament in Commack and Dix Hills, N.Y.
After getting off to a strong start with an opening-game win in pool play, the tournament took a turn for the worse, as Rhode Island lost 18-2 to Pennsylvania on Monday and then lost 13-1 to Delaware on Tuesday. Its final pool play game is scheduled for Wednesday, against Massachusetts, with results unavailable at press time.
The top two teams from the New England pool advance to the region semifinals, and with two losses Rhode Island has already been mathematically eliminated. Still, it has a chance to come in third place with a win over Massachusetts.
