The 6th annual Rocky Point 5K Run & Walk will take place Saturday, May 19 in Warwick Neck. The 5K kicks off at 10 a.m. It is run by the Central Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce with proceeds benefiting local non-profit organizations. This year’s recipients are the Girl Scouts of Southeastern New England and the American Cancer Society in Rhode Island. The 5k has been very successful in the past, cumulatively raising over $56,000 for local non-profits over the last five years.
The 5k is open to runners and walkers of all ages. There are eight age divisions, ranging from 12-18 to 70. A total of $1,650 will be given out in cash prizes. Throughout the race, runners and walkers will enjoy a view of Narragansett Bay along the shoreline of the former amusement park.
The race starts on Rocky Point Avenue up to Warwick Neck Avenue and loops back through Rocky Point Park on the walking path straight up to the finish line on Rocky Point Avenue.
Lauren Slocum, president of the Central Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce said, “It’s very exciting to watch the community as a whole come together for this.”
Registration for this event can be done online at www.rockypoint5k.com. The cost is $35.
For those who cannot make it to the race but still want to support the community, there is an option to register as a virtual runner-walker. Pre-registered participants may pick up their bib number and timing chip at Warwick Neck Elementary School, 150 Lennox Ave from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, May 18. Registration Friday night is also available. Pre-registration is preferred, but race day registration will be available beginning at 8:30 a.m. Registration to become a sponsor and/or volunteer for the 5K can also be done online or by calling the Chamber of Commerce at 732-1100.
