A. Richard Comstock, a resident of Cranston for 45 years, passed away April 8, 2011 at the age of 91. Formerly of Providence and Warwick, he was pre-deceased by his beloved wife, Caroline (Carol) Heaney Comstock, who died in 1990.

Born in Providence on April 18, 1919, he was the son of the late Melville H. and Mary A. (Butler) Comstock. An Army veteran of World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart and two Silver Stars for injuries sustained in the Pacific Theater of Operations during the Battles of Peleliu and Angaur. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a lifetime member of the Tri-City Elks Lodge, #14.

Mr. Comstock was the co-owner and operator with his brother of the former M.H. Comstock and Sons Funeral Home, Providence. He was associated with the family business as treasurer and president from 1938 until his retirement in 1988. Upon retirement, he was affiliated with Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, Warwick, Tucker-Quinn Funeral Chapel of Greenville and Fagan-Quinn Funeral Home of North Kingstown.

Mr. Comstock is survived by his son, Richard A. Constock and his wife, Carolyn, of Westerly and Venice, Fla., and his daughter, Deborah L. Howard and her husband, Frank, of Weston, Mass. He was the loving grandfather of Tammy Ober and her husband, Michael, of Westerly, Shawn Latocha of Wallingford, Conn., Richard Comstock and his wife, Tae Eun, of Arlington, Va., Christopher Rohter and his fiancée, Sofia Vallila, of Somerville, Mass., Lindsay Howard of San Francisco, Calif. and Matt Howard of Weston; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He leaves a brother, Franklin, of Coventry, formerly of Edgewood, and a sister, Muriel McNally of Middleberg, Fla. He was the brother of the late Helen and George Comstock.

Mr. Comstock’s funeral will be held April 12 at 9 a.m. from Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave., Warwick, with a Mass of Christian Burial in Immaculate Conception Church, 237 Garden Hills Dr., Cranston, at 10 a.m. Burial with military honors will be in Swan Point Cemetery, 585 Blackstone Blvd., Providence.
