On March 7 at 10:17 p.m., the Warwick Police Department responded to a car and bicyclist accident in the area of 389 Greenwich Ave. The Traffic Division’s Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating the accident. The accident involved one vehicle operated by 44-year-old Brenda Swenson from Cranston, and a bicyclist, 63-year-old Joseph Izzo of 300 Lambert Lind Hwy in Warwick. Izzo was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries, and at last check was still in intensive care but upgraded from critical to fair condition.
The preliminary investigation disclosed that Swenson was traveling northwest on Greenwich Ave. when she struck the bicyclist, who was in the right hand travel lane in the area of 389 Greenwich. At this time, it does not appear that speed or alcohol were factors in the crash for either of the parties and charges are not likely to be filed.
Any person with information related to the accident is requested to contact the Warwick Police Department Traffic Division at 468-4293.
